KeymasterOK again: I have been ON STAGE with Skrillex. That what is posted on the link you provided is 1. a very tiny part of his equipment and most of it he does not use anymore.
If you want to mix dubstep and trap better in general: Practice and take a course.Terry_42
KeymasterHey and welcome!
Do not worry it is never too late. We moderators on this forum are quite old too. Well given we are in the Business for 20+ years each, but we are still juggling the beats and still love music and that is the most important thing…December 21, 2015 at 8:32 am in reply to: Hello, house, tech-house and techno DJ on board :) #2326031Terry_42
KeymasterHey and welcome! Good to have you here.

December 14, 2015 at 12:53 pm in reply to: USB mixing without laptop, many options, what do you think? #2316661Terry_42
KeymasterYes you missed something:
This is digitaldjtips.com we are catering towards the future. The CDJ and USB media players are a thing of the past. Most clubs within 4-5 years will no longer have media players (most big ones like Ministry of Sound already have gone that way).
So if you are set on the past then there is only one option: Get a complete Nexus setup from Pioneer and do expect that it will drop in price rapidly over the next 5 years or just write it off to never sell them again as apart from a few people stuck in the past nobody will use them anymore (or a few high profile users that get paid money to look like using them when their sets are actually full playback…).There are numerous posts in this forum already who recommend to buy nothing else if you invest in that outdated technology, so this thread is closed.

Keymasterreloop Beatpad 2.

KeymasterSkrillex does not mix songs live.
He has small parts of his songs in loops and tiny pits assigned to his custom build button boxes. Only he in his sick mind (meant as a compliment) knows how his buttons work and which button will trigger what sound or loop for how long. He does not even use midi-sync to stay in beat.
So to do it exactly like he does you would need at least 20000 dollars for custom gear, deep knowledge of music theory, perfect sense of beat and staying in beat and being able to work in a totally chaotic environment without getting overwhelmed.
He is one sick musical genius…To come close you might consider hacking his songs into Ableton live and use something like the Push controller to make it happen.

Keymaster2 GB RAM is too low and probably your CPU is not cutting it too.
For the current Serato versions I recommend at least an i3 processor and 4GB.Terry_42
KeymasterWhat Todd said. If it is boring, it is your fault not the DMXs… hard truth.

KeymasterIndeed Vestax had some awesome gear, but they did make some decisions that were not applauded by the people.
For example the 380 was groundbreaking, but due to only having 2 channels it did not see great sales.
While the 400 was revolutionary again, as it did try to cater to any DJ software, most people said it had no sense of direction and was too complicated because of it. Also it had Firmware problems at start.
Some of their cheaper products were clearly just OEM stuff that you could get cheaper without the name tag and while their turntables were excellent, turntable sales are not stellar among DJs… then they tried to make HiFi stuff for audiophiles or something and all that side projects…
So there is no real mystery, it was a clear lack of direction of the company. This happens to a lot of innovators. Their fast pace of “we can do this too and be revolutionary” is getting in their way. This is why the best companies that actually do this and succeed have a very strong leading person (much like Steve Jobs did with Apple).Terry_42
Keymaster1.8.1 should resolve most still existing problems, however I do not have a controller that had problems so I cannot verify.
Terry_42
KeymasterAs I said, several technologies were sold, may be that Pioneer bought them, but could also be that Pioneer just uses the same supplier for that suspicious knobs you mention (as Vestax ordered most of that stuff of standard OEM suppliers, so you also found the same knobs and buttons on some reloop stuff).
Terry_42
KeymasterI would not buy the software right away.
If you buy a Mixtrack Pro (2 or 3 whatever you prefer) you have a good controller. It does come with Serato DJ Intro, so you can test that world. You can download a trial of Virtual DJ and Traktor and Cross DJ and test all of those to find the software that suits you best.As for speakers I agree get some monitors. You can get as low as some M-Audio AV 40 or the more pricey KRK Rockit series.
decks is a decent supplier, however I would also check the prices on thomann.de as they easily and cost effective ship to the entire EU.

KeymasterThe free float works but it has also a major downside (like most stuff that tries to float the turntable to isolate):
If you put your hand down on the platter too hard the needle will skip much easier than if it was standing on a hard surface. Now depending on how much isolation you need you also can go to your next home depot or car accessory shop and buy the cheapest and softest rubber mat you can find. It should not be thicker than a usual floor mat for your car. Usually the mats that have structure (anti-skid) work better than those with plain rubber tops.
