ParticipantIf you can mix the songs together where there is only a drum part on one an instrumental on the other, that might smooth things out.

ParticipantBest of luck! Maglia is good, and you can always change to something else early on.

ParticipantDitto to what Terry 42 said. I digitized all my cd’s to mp3 and never looked back. It’s liberating!
DISCLAIMER – a lot of people have very strong opinions on doing this. I recommend experimenting with it, maybe on a friends rig, and seeing what you like or dislike about it. The best way to dj is the way that makes you feel like you are having a good time and honoring your art.

ParticipantThanks for the advice!

ParticipantJust use the standard “airhorn+namedrop” in every single song. Works like a charm. Ok – just kidding! I’ll stop now.

ParticipantGood advice from Ess Jay.
I would add:
Know where you are playing – have you been there before? Make sure you have access to a table for your gear, power source, sound equipment, etc.

Participantthanks mate!

ParticipantYou should be able to use audacity. Run your audio out from your mixing board into your microphone in jack. Then, in audacity, set your audio source to microphone (line in) and you should be able to do it.

ParticipantGreat tips! Been thinking of getting some PA equipment myself to expand the gigs I can get as an individual DJ and as a member of Dancekraft. Much appreciated!

ParticipantI’ve had a novation twitch with serato itch for approx 6-7 months now, and find myself using sync less and less. I do match the bpm count, but generally do a manual mix. Now, I will admit I do use sync to clean up a sloppy mix every now and then 🙂

My wife and I made it to the bar at the start of Daryl’s set and I briefly introduced myself. The bar was pretty decent – very relaxed vibe and friendly. DJ Black {OP} was terrific. Very different from the March event at Electrik Maid – which was much more of an “EDM Event” with an eclectic line-up as opposed to the Looking Glass event – which was the traditional DJ + Bar = Drinking & Dancing. Hope to make the May event, but my schedule may be unforgiving.
And yes – Black {OP} is amazing!

ParticipantHey! Thanks for coming out and great to see you. We plan on doing a variety of bar/club events along with rave/warehouse/electric maid style events. More variety, more opportunity, and all that good stuff. Next event after 05-31 is July 27. Stay tuned for more details!

ParticipantGreat points – I will have to check out his book. A friend of mine said she did not want to get into DJ’ing because she has no talent. I’ll have to tell her that NO ONE has any talent at DJ’ing when they first start. It’s a learning process. She’s smart, loves dance music, is outgoing – sound like good raw ingredients to me!
