ParticipantInsecurity? You fear it being stolen or damaged? Or viruses?
I don’t agree that a good Windows laptop will cost you more than a Macbook. If anything, it’ll still cost you a little less. High-end Lenovo Thinkpads still run less than Macbook Pro’s.
HOWEVER…I usually advise Macbooks if the person isn’t deeply technically inclined. One other of my secrets to using Windows successfully is that I know how to maintain, tweak, and use the OS effectively. If you’re the type who doesn’t know how to get into the inner workings and make your machine sing…then go for the user-friendly setup of Apple.
If money isn’t an object for you, then go Apple if you want.
BTW…my iMac at work (new one) crashed twice in the last two weeks. Grey screen of death. I haven’t seen a Windows crash in years. It just comes down to what you’re into and how well you can utilize the system. Macs recently have had security holes for viruses and malware.
The point to this is there is no fullproof solution. Windows or Mac, make sure you get into the OS workings and know how to run solid and secure.

ParticipantThanks for your kind words guys. 🙂
It all takes me back to when I started spinning.

ParticipantThe secret to Windows is to buy quality hardware and have a clean install of Windows running.
Biggest mistakes DJs make on Windows is they buy a $500 USD laptop with a doctored up version of Windows in it. Plus they’ll run other things on that cheap laptop they shouldn’t.
I’ve been using Windows laptops since Final Scratch 1.2. It’s always been about running your system lean and clean…and using quality hardware. Also to know your limits…as I’ll see DJs try to run 2-3 big programs at once. It’s no wonder they have crashes.
That Dell seems fine.

ParticipantI still love mixes, which is a reason why I still make them. I love putting in the effort of picking the right tunes, and blending them together smoothly. I still like to take the listener on a journey as opposed to just slapping together stuff.
Even the art I make for my mixes is mainly a remembrance of when I’d see mixes attached to copies of Mixmag, Muzik, etc. I know my stuff doesn’t get massive amounts of listeners, but I mainly enjoy them for myself. I just couldn’t listen to these tunes unless it was in a DJ set.
I also love mixes that were recorded live at events, where you hear the crowds. I’ve even went looking on stock audio sites for crowd noises I could one day put into a mix.

ParticipantDJ could also mean “Digital Jockey”

ParticipantGo for it. If you’re new then he/she will probably put you on early.

ParticipantSo D-Jam any future holiday trip to my local town by any chance ? =)
Forgive me…but where are you from?

ParticipantAll you can do is wait. See who tries first, and how things work out.
I’m a Windows guy, but I usually never update to a new version until the first Service Pack.

ParticipantWell, this is what happens when the cheap venue takes on the $50-a-night DJ who pirates his/her software and music.
You get what you pay for.

ParticipantIn all honesty, I’d rather compete in a contest to win nothing, but it has actual judges and feedback…to show me things I perhaps didn’t see in my set.
Begging for likes is just a waste of time.
