KeymasterHey and welcome to the forums!

ParticipantI’m in a similar predicament to yourself
One of the disadvantages that a desktop has to a laptop (depending on the specification) is that they typically use more electricity and may be a bit noisy (although this depends on the computer case, power supply etc)
But if your planning to upgrade the desktop or even build it, that’s when I think they have the best value. If not then they seem a bit overkill these days IMO unless you really need lots of power.
Don’t think that would be the case if your just using Traktor Pro 2Another thing to consider are Mini PC’s. They typically use less power and obviously are smaller but are essentially a desktop so you can have your separate large monitor and keyboard. One that has particularly interested me is the Intel NUC
With these you have to install the hard drive, RAM, and wireless internet board but there are companies around that will do this for you.

ParticipantThanks Terry, I’m sure to be using the forums quite regularly as I progress.
Thanks too Dieverse Beatz, I’ll look at the mini Pcs as an option too.

ModeratorI think there is a big difference between all-in-on PC’s and mini-PCs.
AIO’s are usually as silent as laptops (manufacturers know you are sitting with the thing 15 inches from your nose) and specs are pretty decent too. The main beauty is that you don’t have to worry about extra cabling or anything. Hook up power and off you go.
I like mini-PC’s which, depending on make and model are either effectively laptop components in a bigger case or very small footprint motherboard “regular” components. I don’t think I’d use one for DJ-ing purposes though.

ParticipantThanks DJ Vintage,
I think I’ll probably stick with a new laptop for djing, I just liked the idea of a bigger screen without having the extra cost of an additional monitor.

ParticipantThe extra expense of the separate monitor is worth it IMO. I have a 21.5 I use at home, but if I had to go play out I can just drop the HDMI and away I go with my laptop.
Welcome aboard.

ParticipantThanks everyone. I have finally decided on a new laptop with a high spec ( I can add a larger monitor later but I’ve pretty much run out of money for now). I live in Thailand but all of my new equipment has been delivered in the UK. I’m trying to get everything set up so that when it arrives in September I’m ready to go. It’s so exciting I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas again.
With the Traktor S2 MK2 will I need a separate audio interface?
At the moment I have a splitter cable for my current controller.
I hope to be able to play the Maschine Mikro Mk2 along with the Traktor dj software and integrate the 2 so I can create some music as well as mix existing tracks.
Can’t wait to get started.

ModeratorHey, congratulations on your purchases. Hope they bring you what you expect.
The S2 has built-in soundcard, so no need for external or splitter cable.
Greetinx.

ParticipantThat’s great Dj Vintage, I thought that would be the case, I just don’t want anything to slow me down when it arrives.
I appreciate the help.
