IMHO the Escort was designed for one thing and one thing only: Public Address for speakers.
For music this just has not the volume range, is underpowered and hooking up a sub, due to lacking frequencies will prolly make things worse.
It may be OK to address 200 people with the Escort for a speaker, you prolly can use it for 20-25 people tops playing music and they will not enjoy it.
So no I think this was not a good buy.
2 Mackie Thump 15s are not a whole lot more and can do a whole lot more.
A 1-2 year old HK Lucas nano can do WAY more MUCH louder and will prolly cost the same.
