As an IT specialist I can give you some hints about the choice of the right processor (ignoring the fact whether it’s supported by the controller or not): AMD processors produce a lot more heat than Intel processors, which means that AMD processors are less efficient than the ones made by Intel since more power is used to keep a pot of coffee next to the laptop warm instead of calculate all the necessary processes. So AMD processors are cheap because the chip design is cheap, yet the costs for running the system according to a long-term use can get really high. It just depends on how long the laptop is running per day and meant to be in use.

Intel processors consume less power to get the same results like AMD processors. It’s still amazing that a 6-core AMD isn’t better than 4-core Intel, neither in efficiency nor in performance. Especially the mobile sector of Intel is interesting, since you need efficiency to last longer with your battery.

For professional home and mobile DJ setups -> Intel
For venues (what do you care about other people’s electricity bills) and hobby home DJ setups -> AMD

And another tip for you: I know that not many people want to mess with BIOS settings but you could try to get a laptop with a mobile processor which has the possibility to change the original CPU clock by underclocking, if you know, that the CPU won’t have much to do during your session, especially in 4-core systems. That will lower the heat production, which lowers the CPU fan’s speed and, of course, lowers the power consumption to extend the uptime.

That’s it. My first post… and damn that’s a long one.
