There are plenty of controllers out there (as you know) only some will tick all the boxes you need however. I bet you will find one that suits, use it for a while but then upgrade. This is what I did, although I already learnt on CDJs a long time before I took the leap into all digital. I’m glad I got the knowledge to know how to do everything the software now takes care of, as it can be invaluable. You are right to want to know how it all works first hand, sync can make you complacent as can anything that becomes automatic!!

Exactly what I was thinking! But the thing is that I’m not sure if I can upgrade any time soon… I can’t keep spending so much money on what will probably remain a hobby! :S

However times are changing, and you no longer need CDJs and you also no longer need to know how to connect everything together with them. You also do not need to know about setting gain. Its handy to know, but not essential. I wouldn’t make it a deal breaker personally.
Beatmatching on the otherhand is a skill worth learning, just in case the synch ever lets you down. This can be achieved by switching it off, covering the BPM indicator and practice practice practice.

I know what you mean, but I wanna learn how to be able to mix on almost anything, that’s why I think I should learn all the basics & manual stuff before moving on to the more automated stuff. I’m talking from my experience with photography, I know the manual stuff & some advanced stuff but sometimes I don’t care about this and I set my SLR to fully auto or a scene and just press the shutter button & by knowing all that, if you give me an all manual fully pro camera I would still be able to use it & produce great images with it! You see where I’m going?

I didn’t say it was an absolute deal-breaker but it’s would’ve been great to have it there just for the sake of it being there that would make me that much more comfortable with picking or mixing with that controller over picking another controller!

Yep, this controller doesn’t have gain control which is a shocker. I’m new to DJing & I would like to learn to do everything manually before I start using automation ie, I want to learn how to match the gain of two tracks before start using the auto gain feature in Traktor, for example.

Phil, what do you think of the Xponent & the whole Torq line? Do you think that Avid/M-Audio are actually abandoning the whole thing? Any news?

True, true. I love that they’re upgrading almost everyone’s programs for free. Nice move! Looking fwd to 2.5 with the remix decks, but unfortunately they don’t go into full effectivity unless you have the F1!

I’ve tried it a few years back as well but now it has changed completely. It’s still not as good as traktor but for a free program it has way too much to offer now with midi & it comes with mappings for a whole bunch of midi controllers & it also has 4 sample decks. It only falls short on the effects section in my opinion & some of Traktor’s bells & whistles under the hood. I suggest you check it out, or at least check their website. The program is impressive, it’s way better than some of the starter DJ programs that you actually have to pay for!

Yes I have! I guess I’m going with Traktor then! After all, the Behringer DOES look like it’s designed for Traktor more than any other DJ software.

Btw, did you check out the latest Mixxx software? It’s awesome & it’s free which adds more to its awesomeness!

Daaaaaaaaaaamn!! Well, It’s a good thing that I didn’t get the torq, then, huh? Seriously? They’re just abandoning a whole line of products just like that? I wouldn’t have expected that from Avid, being the industry standard in many areas. Tsok tsok tsok, SHAME!

Yes I have, I’m ruling out virtual DJ & serato so I’m gonna go with the newest versions of either Torq or Traktor, though I noticed that the Behringer is more optimized for traktor, but I’m liking the new Torq interface better.

I see what you mean there. It is indeed reassuring that Behringer are confident that their products are durable enough to give them that sort of guarantee. So, I guess I’m gonna have to wait for a few months to get my controller! 🙁 Let’s hope that it’s gonna be worth the wait.

Brilliant idea from Behringer to allow users to totally customise there purchases to there own needs and keep a uniform look as well.. They have 3 year guarantee now as well which will help with the reliability issue concerns of the past.

I know! I really loved the modular series! You can build your perfect console! But I’m going for the Studio 4A because It has all I need for now & because it’s more affordable. Plus, it has a 4-out + headphones audio interface. Though, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to use the 3 year guarantee since we don’t have a Behringer authorized dealer/repair-shop in my country or the whole region! :/

I think I’m gonna wait a bit and get myself a Behringer CMD Studio 4A!

RB75 Yeah, I got used to not being able to try anything I want! 😛

Dave, Almost all of the DJs in jordan use CDJs I don’t know or have never seen anyone who uses any sort of controller! :/
