MemberThat’s great advice guys thanks very much! I will definately be trying both of them out tonight! Although i don’t have Traktor unfortunately, i use cdjs with a djm400 mixer so i’m quite limited to the effects i can use, but it’s got all the basics so enables me to do loop rolls and stuff. Thanks again though people thats really helpful! x

MemberThanks, that’s been really helpful! I knew it was going to be something simple but i’m a bit ditzy to be honest! Haha! Yeah if you do get a chance to post up how your inputs are in Audacity that would be really good! Then hopefully i won’t have to p*** about and can get a nice crisp sound first time. 🙂

MemberHey thanks for the advice! Yeah i do have to outputs on the mixer, (djm400) i have one out put already hooked up to the PA and then tried hooking up the master out to the S/PDIF on my laptop, but i think that was be the wrong port anyway as it sounded awful, i couldnt even hear my music apart from some horrible distorted sound!
So basically i need one RCA running to my amp and speakers and then another RCA to go into the line in on my laptop right?

MemberWell that’s really good to hear! I suppose you get used to it really but i can’t wait to try them out on a big system! My other ones i was using were very poor and i struggled to hear the highs alot when i was mixing but i can instantly notice the difference with these. I’m hoping to get a good few years out of them anyhow! x

MemberI can definately see your point, but where do you draw the line? If your a DJ who hasn’t been on the scene for very long and is still trying to get your name heard, if you get offered an opportunity to play a set and start asking the owner or promoter for cash wouldn’t that come across as a bit cheeky?
I can understand if they have asked you personally because they clearly want to hire you for your talent etc, but i would feel pretty rude if i had been given the chance to DJ in a club i’ve never been to before and immediately start rubbing my fingers together as soon as i get my foot in the door!
I can definately see both sides of the argument though and if i ever did make it big then i probably would expect something back in return. But i think at this stage it should be about learning new skills and gaining experience’s and just having fun! I would start taking it alot more seriously if i had the chance to play with the big boys for sure!

MemberIts interesting that you say that Terry, because i think alot of DJ’s are prepared to DJ for free purely because of thier love and passion for music. I think even if you want to make it big it’s all about gaining experience right?
People always seem to say it’s like learning to drive, you only truly start to learn the ways of the road when you actually pass you test, and i think it’s pretty much the same ball part from playing out and getting noticed.
I don’t think people should be so demanding when it comes to getting paid, and i know that i would rather DJ a 100 times for free just for the pure pleasure and goosebumps i get from the music then the dollar in my back pocket. 😉

MemberI certainly will! I think i’m ready to record a mix now, i just need to take some time to figure out how i’m gonna do it! Need to actually take some time to sit down, find out how to connect my mixer to my comp and get started! I know there’s an article about it on here somewhere so i’l be sure to check it out. I’ve got the limited edition CDJ400’s and DJM400 Mixer so it can’t be that hard to do! 🙂
