ParticipantI’d agree, that beatmeatching, and more importantly, phrasematching are still critical with Hip Hop. Another good free resource is DJ TLM. Check out his youtube channel. He has some pretty good stuff on there, and is a real down-to-earth dude. I believe he recently teamed with with DJCity as well. If you’re serious about Hip Hop, you’ll definitely want to learn to scratch. It’s an integral part of the culture. DDJT has an awesome scratch course. I’d keep an eye out for the next time it opens up.

ParticipantI used a nickname that always seemed to come up no matter where I lived, or who my friends were. Somehow or another I always ended up being referred to as “wildbill.” If it weren’t for that, I’d have just gone with my name.

ParticipantThat’s a tough question to answer – in my opinion. It really depends on what you want your style to be. With House music you can run loops, drop some vocals, lay down some hot queues at various points within the track – which can then be used to create some on-the-fly remixing. Shoot, you can even throw in a bit of scratching. You can also experiment with various FX. The sky is the limit these days. Once you get your controller, master its capabilities and experiment to your hearts content.

ParticipantI use Mixcloud for 99% of my uploads. They have licensing that allows them to keep your mixes up. They also have unlimited uploads for free. It doesn’t have near the user-base as Soundcloud, but it’s a solid place to upload your mixes to share with others.

ParticipantThe search feature can definitely be your friend. If you haven’t done so already, do a search on “music pools” and you’ll find a plethora of topics. To get you started in your search; however, I’ve provided a few that are pretty popular with many folks on the site… of course there are plenty of others.

ParticipantI agree with bob. There wouldn’t really be a need to use an external mixer with the SX unless you needed the additional channels for a more robust setup. I too route the left and right XLR outputs to their respective speakers. My main controller is an SX2. I have a Traktor S2 MK2 as a backup which is able to hold its own using the TRS outputs (no external mixer).

ParticipantThere was an article posted on here a few months ago which linked to TheFader. It might be worth checking out as well.

ParticipantIf you use the fade-in and fade-out markers in Traktor, you should also be able to accomplish the same result. Set your markers on your tracks, create your playlist, enable the fade-in/fade-out in your settings, and you should be good to go. Just be sure your up-faders on all of the decks in Traktor are up, and your cross fader is in the middle. Traktor should do the rest.

ParticipantVintage hit the nail on the head, knowing your music is the most critical component. The better you know your tunes, the easier it is. I’ve also come to realize that often times you just need to let it flow… feel the vibe, the moment, and you’ll know when it’s time to change things ups. Just keep in mind your phrases. 🙂
