    Welcome to the site.

Wow…you seem well traveled! I’m sure a lot of people would have thrown in the towel with DJing with all those breaks and distractions. Way to stick with it!

How are you liking the S4?

    Phil,

I currently have Virtual DJ Home and LE if you need a tester. I’m assuming this if for a controller free setup?

Did you check out the V7? I am pretty sure you are able to use one V7 to control 2 decks in Serato…
I’m not aware of any other controllers with motorized platters/vinyl.

Phil has made an extensive guide comparing pretty much all controllers with price points/pros/cons of each. I would search for that on the site and start there.

    Numark NS7 or Numark V7
…if you want the feel of vinyl and motorized platters on a controller (and price isn’t an issue)

From what I have read, it appears that the Hip-Hop DJs are probably the least receptive to digital (other than DVS) which would probably explain why the focus on this site in particular is not on Hip-Hop. I do agree with you that the focus on Hip-Hop on this site is pretty much non-existant.

IMO switch to Traktor man…way better DJ software. I started with VDJ but quickly made the switch to traktor and never looked back.

The Native instruments site has a free 30 day trial of Traktor Pro 2…believe me once you try it you will never go back to VDJ.

The Virtual DJ LE was just temporary as I will be switching to Serato shortly when I get the NS6… I know Traktor is a powerfull tool also.

My mixtrack came packaged with Virtual DJ LE…

I am using the Mixtrack right now (same as Mixtrack pro minus the sound card) and I find it is a great starter setup.

My only gripe is that for a beginner learning to beatmatch on it is slightly difficult due to short pitch faders. I don’t know how this compares to the other models you listed, but maybe someone else can comment on that.

Also, I think pretty much everything is MAC/PC compatiable.

P.S. I picked up my mixtrack for 105 (new) and an external USB sound card (for precuing) for 15 and I was up and running for $120 if budget is really an issue you could use the extra $130 to get her some DJ headphones which she will need and some other gear.

Best of luck to you and her!

I believe there is plans in the work for either an “intermediate” level course, but don’t quote me on that.

I really didn’t mean it to come off like that. To be honest the whole point of this thread is my internal struggle between the NS6 and the S4, and I think I am really just nit-picking at this point.

What it also comes down to is @ the price point of both of these controllers I probably won’t be investing in anymore hardware for a while so I like the flexibility/resolution of the jogs better for scratching on the NS6.

Being a relatively new DJ, either of these controllers features are way beyond what I am even capable of right now so it doesnt matter.

My first set of dj headphones and I’m only at home right now so no complaints. I’m sure they will serve as a decent back up pair eventually. I don’t know if I have a big neck or the cups are super large but they are a little tight when hanging around my neck. Also wish they had the coiled cord.

Ive seen a pretty ballin’ setup with 4 CDJ-2000s networked together.
If only I had 8k and a mixer laying around ….=)

I enjoy the program. One of my major gripes is exactly what you said with the drifting of beatmatched tracks.
I love the artwork visuals and they also make a remote app (for iphone) that allows you to control the MAC/iPAD over wifi.

For more info check out Phil’s write-up (Mac and Ipad versions are very similar)
