check out http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk to get some quality acapellas to popular songs.
Obviously you can use your EQs to trim out Highs and Lows (sometimes it work sometimes it doesnt) to help boost the vocals.

Also, try messing around with the High Pass and Low Pass filters (in combination) in ITCH (effects)

It may be easier for you to take a song like “Wild Ones” where the intro is almost all vocal and overlay that and fade into the beat starting… I use this a lot in my mixing.

The SP-6 is the sample plugin for Scratch Live and Itch.

You can trigger the Sample Player on any of the Itch Controllers now by holding SHIFT + Hotcue 1 = Sample 1, etc..

I didn’t realize the Free VFX-1 promotion was over maybe you can try http://www.agiprodj.com or one of the other authorized online dealers and they can still hook you up…

Also, yes you can trigger the SP6 via Itch Controllers now…

I’m pretty sure all Serato Itch controllers can now trigger the SP-6 sampler by presshing SHIFT + Hotcue 1,2,3,4,5,6,

Also, you can map the Sample player to a seperate MIDI controller to trigger (one of the few things you can actually map in ITCH)

I saw these (as I am in the market for a pair of Th15s as well)

I’m just saving up the $500 to buy a new pair (get some stands seperate later) so I know there are no issues and I have a warrarnty.

TBH, I am sure they are fine but I would get confirmation from the seller that there are no issues etc…

I felt inclined to share this.

I was out this weekend in Philly and was out at a completely packed club. The DJ was using SSL/1200s/Pio mixer/
I saw him tweeking a few EQs here and there, but sware he played most of the night in Internal mode. No beatmatching/No mixing ..just slammed from song to song on the “1”

Internally I was so frustrated and couldn’t even enjoy myself until I started to look around at this over capacity club with everyone jamming out and now fully understand how song selection >>>> mixing.

Not that I advocate this style, but it’s not about showing off to the 3 other DJs in the room as much as keeping the other 300 people dancing/drinking.

This is definitely one area where Serato excels over Traktor…

If you want Itch I would go with the Novation Twitch.
If you want litest possible setup get DJAY4 by algoriddim on an Ipad or Iphone with the “iRig” pocket sized mixer
You don’t need 2 iphone/ipad you can mix 2 decks with one iDevice!

Also, for traveling take a look at the numark controller backpack for the NS6. I just got one and love it.
I plan on traveling (flying) with it for work and its small enough/durable enough for a carry on. I understand your situation is a little different though.

    Regards,

Thanks. Yeah I wandered around aimlessly online for about a month or two before I found this site and took Phil’s course.
Don’t get me wrong. My mixing is at the level it is right now (and still far from great) from fully intrenching myself in DJing. Countless hours discovering/preparing new music. Listening to (and more importantly watching) other people mix.

The three biggest pieces of advice I can give you are
    1) Record everything you do so you can go back and criticize yourself
    2) Play in front of other people
    3) Watch youtube videos of other “beginners” mixing
*Things just start to click when you hear something you like and see what faders/knobs the performer is using to
    make that happen…

I always reccomend that people start out on a cheap midi controller (Numark Mixtrack) or equivalent for two reasons
    1) If you realize this isn’t for you … you don’t have a lot invested into it and its easy to resell a mixtrack
    2) You will wish you had the extra money you invested in your $500 controller off the bat to put toward your $800
controller once you really know what you want to do and are ready to upgrade.

PS I will be sure to listen to your mix and give you feedback as soon as I get home. Looking forward to it.

Most controllers come bundled with a LE edition of their respecective software. You will naturally feel limited by any of them that is their purpose. So you get hooked and upgrade to the PRO version of that software.

I believe the ergo supports Serato DJ Intro which I believe you can download/use for free so maybe give that a go?

I highly recommend the course by Phil.
I took the course about 6 months ago and you can check out my facebook to the level my mixes are at already.

Also, paying $550 for a course to “watch” somebody DJ on CDJs and then saving up to go get a controller and apply it is not going to work. Phils course is not software/controller specific so pick up the N4 or anything else that catches your eyes, put your hands on every single wheel/knob/button and don’t look back…
