I have the DJAY by algoriddim app on my iphone and brainstorm ideas / transitions / mashups while at work (It allows you to record also) Then when I get home I can try them out in Itch/NS6 with the songs properly beatmatched and with effects etc…

Also, just having a job where you can keep the earbuds in all day while you work gives me 8 hours of new music discovery a day (via podcasts/soundcloud/itunes). I find its easier to discover new music while letting it stream in the background and having a tune strike/catch your attention instead of really focusing trying to FIND new songs i Like.

I’m not really up on Traktor, but here is a link to their Audio interfaces (which you will need)
Alternatively, you may want to look in to upgrading the DJM 500 mixer to one of the Pioneer’s that is Traktor certified (contains the Traktor audio interface so you don’t need a seperate piece of hardware)

I hope this starts you off in the right direction.

As for laptop stands I used The Crane Stand (standard) ~$75 USD and the thing is amazing!

Is there a headphone jack (3.5mm) / aux input on the speakers themselves that you can plug an external device in to?
If so a simple Y-cable should do the trick. If not, let me know what speakers you have and we’ll see what we can do.

    Plyteuth,

Welcome to the site. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

I do however have an APC-40 question you may be able to help me with.
I may be looking to pick up an APC-40 shortly to utilize with serato for the BRIDGE. However, I believe it requires Ableton Live 8 to work and wasn’t sure what the cost was to update to Live 8 from whatever version comes with the APC-40.

If you are just starting out DJing, some of the most fundamental things are going to take time to learn (such as beatmatching) Taking small breaks to convert some vinyl to digital will give you some time in betweeen praticing so you don’t burn out.

My suggestion would be to kinda of import the vinyl in order or importance or start with whatever you would actually play first.

    Hey Josh. Thanks for these.

A little off topic, but do you know how much it is to upgrade to Live 8 from whatever version ships with the APC-40?
You aren’t able to utilize the bridge with whatever version ships with the APC-40 are you?

Can’t Wait to check this out. The Lazy Rich remix of Bodywork is one of favorite tracks out right now.
Always looking for other remixes though!

Mapping the jog wheels from the NS6 to Traktor is not as tight as they would be in itch. I’m pretty sure its equal resolution between the NS6 and 4Trak with their respective software.

There is obviously a price difference between the two since the 4Trak is so new and includes a seperate FX bar to take advantage of the obviously better effects in Traktor.

I knew that! I just got ahead of myself.

Yes I was referring to Time Machine on an external harddrive, but I will be heavily contemplating the $300 investment in the Time capsule now!

3 hours should be somewhere arond 100 songs.

I would start grouping my music into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hour songs.
Thats how I started. My first few gigs have been 3 hours+ on a limited music library and managable if you plan accordingly.

    I hope this helps.

    easy as apple pie!

This should remind me to backup to my time capsule more regularly.
To be honest I’ve just kinda blindly utilized this feature and wasn’t sure what it was capable of. So If I sync weekly, worst case scenario I could buy a new MBP, connect that hard drive and reopen up the same computer?
