ParticipantHey there, glad to see that slowing things down has helped. I have a Mixtrack Pro 2, and have recently started using it with Serato DJ instead of Intro. There are a few things that might make a difference to you, such as the option of split cue. I have also noticed that the cue/headphones output is quite a bit louder on the full Serato DJ software( I also changed computers, so that may be part of the cause). This video is one I watch from time to time, showing scratching on the MTP2. I don’t think he’s using Serato in this video though. There are loads of videos online, DJTLM and DJ Angelo both have some great ones, among others. The scratching for controller DJs course has been great so far, can’t wait to have time to get stuck in with some more practice and lessons. Keep it up, and keep us posted! Moonshadow

ParticipantI’ve had the MTP2 for about a year….. less than a year when I decided to upgrade and ordered the TM8… I ordered it along with my starter “kit”…. PA and lighting … all together I was able to negotiate a pretty nice deal… best of luck, they just got to the states, so shops in Canada should have them now/soon… keep us posted! Isaiah

ParticipantMy Terminal Mix 8 showed up Friday… I was looking to upgrade and considered Traktor and the S4 Mk2, I considered the new Denon MC6000 Mk2, the DDJ-SR, the Reloop TM8, and a few other options. I decided to choose the Terminal Mix 8 for a few reasons, one being mains power. I upgraded from a Numark Mixtrack Pro 2, so the layout is familiar/similar. I also liked the RGB backlit pads, the reviews of Reloop jog performance(trying to learn to scratch), the 4CH mixer section, long pitch faders, and the fact that they seemed to have though out the controls of Serato DJ pretty well. I have yet to figure everything out, but it seems that with a little preparation setting up my crates, samples, cues/loops…. I should be able to keep from touching the computer much at all. This thing is loud and clear, and the headphone preamp is PLENTY LOUD even driving 2 sets of headphones(a problem with the MTP2). I pre-ordered this in Feb. shortly after they were announced, it ticked most of my boxes and I didn’t find another controller while waiting that made me decide to change my order. It really is built like a tank, it’s heavy and feels like a quality piece of kit. So far I am really glad I got the TM8, and would say that it’s likely a good choice for anyone who has it on their “short list”. The DDJT review/video, and Kareem Julien’s video on youtube are both great! http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2014/02/review-video-reloop-terminal-mix-8-serato-dj-controller/ Best of luck! Moonshadow

ParticipantI’ll be waiting for your review and video, I too will be looking for a case shortly, to fit my Terminal Mix 8, which showed up Friday…. I’ll have some more input on it soon, but so far I like it, A LOT!!!

Participantthe highlighted part of the text at the bottom almost hints at something new coming… RP-8000 tables and a Serato mixer similar in price and function to the Z2 would be awesome! Might reloop be working on a Serato mixer? Whoever comes out with a mixer for Serato for a reasonable price, say $1000 or less, will likely make me dive into DVS…. considering other options as well, but the picture leads me to think they might be working on a Serato mixer of some sort… I can only hope 🙂 Terry, I am looking into turntables and noticed another post where you mention liking the Reloop tables, other than the RP-8000/7000, should I consider any of the others. Also looking at Stanton and Audio-Technica.

ParticipantInteresting, I may look into building a box to deaden the sound of a generator, something quiet and clean power, with the addition of a power conditioner and 50-100ft extension cord, might work out. Also considering some deep cycle batteries and an inverter. Both would be handy to have, but I think a generator would be more appropriate for my situation. It could power my whole system far longer, and also would be handy for other uses. There are a few reasons I have considered buying a decent inverter, such as silent AC power, but the amount of power you can get out of a setup like that, and how long it will run on a recharge are limiting. I actually recently had a conversation about just this subject with a friend who was looking into a setup for street performance, and I have a few things in mind that will be remote with no AC on site. Any insight on going that route guys? As always, great insight to be found on DDJT! Thanks to all… Moonshadow

ParticipantPlease do give us an update, I have been waiting forever for a Terminal Mix 8 🙁 have even started reconsidering other controllers or something else all together in the meantime… congrats on the baby, they sure do make getting in practice time a little more tricky… like the looks of the lit ring around the jogs on the Beatmix, one thing I might wish for once I get my TM8 is some kind of position indicator on the jogs.
Chuck or Terry, also wondering if it’s OK on DDJT forums to mention specific vendors we have gotten something from. I have ordered from a couple places in the states and have previously thought about mentioning them in posts about the products I purchased. If memory serves, I don’t think that I did, but for future reference it’d be handy to know DDJT’s policy on this sort of thing. For instance, mentioning a retailer because you found a good price on something, or linking to a product page on a retail site asking for opinions or advice before making a purchase, etc.Isaiah Furrow
Participantaside from the wash fixtures I have(plan to add more), I have a pair of Mini Kinta and really like them, also I have a 4Play CL and like it a lot. I hope to add to this show and plan to add DMX control, and a host of other things, but for now I’m focusing on more wash/uplighting and DMX, oh, and a gobo projector… just my .02, but I found a good variety of videos on YouTube that helped me in my selections… let us know what you’re up to and keep us posted …. Participantjust a quick thought…. could you run one PA setup off of the master output and then the other off of the booth out, then if during the gig you feel you need more volume, just turn up the extra speakers. just a thought….. let us know how it goes…. Moonshadow

ParticipantI have a Numark MTP2 and although it’s been a great learning tool, I would not really recommend it. My main gripe is the very low cue output volume, but I think it would be worth it to look into the DDJ-SB, as well as the Denon MC2000, and a couple others. Given your budget, I would suggest saving for a while and researching these all some more in the meantime. The Reloop Beatmix 4 is a decent deal, looks to be a decent entry level controller, and comes with the full Serato DJ at least for now. (remember that upgrading to Serato DJ isn’t free, so figure that into your considerations) just my .02

ParticipantI have a Mixtrack Pro 2 and Numark Redwave cans….. The Redwaves are plenty loud when driven off of something other than the MTP2, for instance, when connected to my home stereo surround unit, my old Sansui 6060 amp that is in the mancave powering the practice setup, a Numark iM1 mixer, a Stanton M.203 mixer, etc…. when powered by something decent they are loud and clear, but NO headphones I have or have borrowed, will get loud enough to be usable in a “gig” situation where the PA is really loud. I would imagine that there are far better phones out there, but I wager that most will still be problematic when powered by the MTP2 and in a loud setting. I have one workaround that I’ve used once, hooking the phones output of the MTP2 into an open channel of an analog mixer, then using the mixer as a “headphone amp” so to say…. I will look into getting a device like the one linked to above, but for now the MTP2 is a practice tool and used for smaller gigs, hoping my Terminal Mix 8 gets here soon. Thanks to all who make DDJT so great! Keep shining folks, Moonshadow

ParticipantNope, just a cabin in the woods, with WiFi…LOL….no phone service, I’m not in town often enough to justify the monthly bill…. I love not having a cell phone….. It’s pretty cool here, a county with no stoplight….
