ParticipantI had been looking to get the DDJ-SR, with your post I’m assuming that if you’re looking into the SX you’re probably wanting Serato controllers, as Terry suggested, look into Reloop and also the Vestax. This is what was on my short list: Pioneer DDJ-SR/SX , Denon MC2000 and MC6000Mk2, Vestax VCI380, and Reloop Terminal Mix 8 (which I have on pre-order). The Denon from what I remember, needs to upgrade to the full Serato DJ software(could be wrong), and I have no real reasons why I “didn’t” choose the VCI380. I’ll give you the reasons why I chose the Reloop. From what I’ve found online, the TM series have about the best jogs on any controller out there, the new TM8 has a similar layout to my current controller, I like the RGB pads, and that the controller is set up to take advantage of most/all of what Serato DJ offers, I like the long pitch faders, the fact that it’s NOT USB powered, but has it’s own power supply, and a few other minor things. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose, my best advice, look into build quality, and to some extent, future-proofing. By that I mean, try and envision what you’ll be doing in 6 months to a year, and get something you can grow into. If you were considering the SX, the only thing out of that price range is the NS7II and the Pioneer SZ(aspirational piece for me…LOL) I would say, if backspins aren’t a big concern, the SX looks nice, I just couldn’t get into that price range as I’m starting out and just purchased PA and lighting as well. I would definitely read up on the Reloop, Denon, Vestax and watch videos on them. Sleep on it, and when you’ve made up your mind, still wait it out another day or two… if you’re still SHURE of what you chose, go ahead and get on with it… it’s a pretty decent investment to take lightly…. Just my NOOB ramblings, hope it was more a help than a hindrance, …. Keep shining, and keep us poseted….. Moonshadow

ParticipantTerry, Chuck, or any other Moderator, please let me know if the title of this thread can be changed…. or if I need to make a new thread…. If you can change it, please make it “My new gear, PA, Lighting, and other bits”. Thanks so much for all your help. Had to jump online again and take a break from the Maschine documentation, it’s been a while since I’ve done this much reading…LOL Almost 1000 pages in all, but over 200 just in the Hardware Control Reference and Quick Start info…. 700 pages of “Manual”… I am giving myself until Friday to play with this new gear, then it’s getting packed up for gigs and the Maschine will be a 1 session a week thing for a while. Trying to not let it take too much away from DJ and Scratch practice. Have a good day today folks, shine brightly…………. Moonshadow

ParticipantRumur, I am a NOOB, I have a Mixtrack Pro 2, it has been a great learning tool, but I am now upgrading to a new controller. I got the MTP2 in June 2013. I have in no way outgrown the functions/features of the hardware, or the software really. I am looking forward to the full Serato DJ, but Intro is nice too. I would say this, even on decent headphones(not $100+ cans, but decent ones) the MTP2 is not nearly loud enough for playing loudly and still hearing the cue. I mirror the above statement, that the master out isn’t nearly as loud as many other devices, like CDJs and even my laptop headphones split into RCA then into the mixer, or my iPod…. both register a louder input on the VU meters on my Stanton mixer. If I were you, and looking in the price range of the MTP2, I would seriously consider the Denon MC2000 (what I’d get if I had it to do over), or the Pioneer DDJ-SB (what I’d consider as an option to the MC2000).
As far as the other topics, I personally can’t add much to what was said already, I use a Gateway that we got a year ago, it has 4BG of ram, Intel B960, and was CHEAP! It runs Serato Intro fine, I have played with Maschine 2.0 on it, and it seems to run it OK too… I will soon be buying a dedicated “music” computer, and may just get another of these as they are still at Wally World for $328. I know I could use a better computer, but I think one without viruses, games, tons of pictures and such, would do even just a little better than this one. In a year or two it will become the backup, the one I’m typing on now, will be solely for family use, and the new one will be my primary ‘music’ computer. Backup your music and library info…. I hope to get another HDD soon just for a backup, backup…LOL For music, I still get most of my tunes from the record shops, either on vinyl or CD. I do get some from emusic, and Beatport, but have yet to get iTunes set up…. SOON, soon I plan to do that, as I have been asked to do a gig of Country Western, and I don’t have enough country in my collection to do a whole evening of just country. Hope my rambling helped, keep us posted and let us know what other stuff you’re pondering……….Keep Shining……….. MoonshadowIsaiah Furrow
Participantis the MC6000 Mk2 no longer a standalone mixer, the Mk1 was I think…. I believe Vintage has the Mk1 so I’m sure he’ll chime back in. I know there’s not much metal in my Maschine Mikro, but it’s not the same kind of “plastic toylike” feel as the Mixtrack Pro 2 I have, it feels substantial even for it’s small size. What I’ve read and seen online of the S4 Mk2 and the Kontrol series in general, is that they are in fact quality built hardware. Hell, even the new Rane mixers (spendy as all getup) have plastic posts under the knobs now days… Keep us posted and be sure to ask more questions so you get all the input you can. There are many reviewers on the web, I love DDJT reviews and also Kareem from DJBooth.net has many god product reviews on YouTube. Best of luck! Keep shining……….. Moonshadow

ParticipantI would agree with Terry, I have never seen nor used Traktor or any controllers for that software, I did however just get me a Maschine Mikro Mk2, with 2.0. I have only had it since Friday, but am impressed with the hardware, the packaging, the software, and the documentation… I’m having Coffee as I type, baby woke us up again and I have already been asleep twice tonight…LOL There is close to 1000 pages to read with this Mikro. I would guess that the manual for Traktor, and say a Kontrol S2, is smaller, but I’d also wager it’s a good manual compared to some. I would look into other controllers that are reported to work well with Traktor, but as Terry said, for Traktor, NI hardware is the best fit. Now, seeing this Maschine, I am hoping to someday pick me up a Z2 and turntables, just to have a go on vinyl and to experience Traktor. Keep shining and keep us posted. Moonshadow
On a side note, I had bad luck with two Gemini CNTRL-7 controllers, sent one back, then sent the second back for different issues, and ended up with a Mixtrack Pro 2 that has been a great learning tool. I am not sure about the newer Gemini stuff, but I’d stick with NI, Pioneer, Denon, Reloop, and Vestax. Just my $.02, I’m a NOOB so it’s only really worth a penny…LOLIsaiah Furrow
Participantgood choice, and great advice above…. I would say you’re off to a good start, if I had it to do over again I would have picked the MC2000 over the Mixtrack Pro 2, and now that the SB is out, I’d be torn between the two of them. Keep us posted on how you like it, and your progress. I would say go for it, no reason you can’t plan pretty much any venue on that controller….. at least as I see it… just my $.02, but it’s only worth $.01, since I’m a NOOB and they keep printing US dollars like it’s the sunday press…. LOL Keep shining friends… Moonshadow

Participantright on, welcome and keep us posted on how you’re getting along…. be sure to sign up for the free emails, they have been most helpful for me starting out, I’m almost at the end of the 50 weeks now. Let us know what type of DJing you’re doing, or wanting to do, gear you have and use, or what you’re looking to get for a setup… there is some great info on this site, spend a while scrolling the blog, ask the folks in the forums, etc… glad you found DDJT, glad I found it too… Keep shining my friend, Moonshado

Participantnice review, DDJT and Kareem from DJBooth.net both popped up when I got online, nicely done, both of them. They helped to clear up a few things, and I’m glad I’m waiting with one on Pre-order. I have one question Terry, for you guys… is there any chance you can confirm just how the aux input works, it appears to have a master/SW switch for the mic and aux, does that mean you can route the mic and aux through the Software, and possibly add a reverb to the mic, or use the Aux for a single CD/vinyl deck, and use timecode? Looks to be a perfect step up from the Mixtrack Pro 2…. for anyone who hasn’t seen it, this is great inspiration for any MTP2 users out there… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSPM1HfK114, his latest video is on a Reloop Beatpad. The reloop won out for a lot of reasons, the jogs and ability to backspin, long pitch faders, 4ch mixer section, non USB powered, RGB pads, set up well to fully use Serato DJ, similar layout to MTP2, …. the only downside was the wait…LOL I’ll be hoping someone can clarify how the aux does work…. keep shining folks! Moonshadow

ParticipantSorry, I wasn’t clear…. I meant when the power cycles on the laptop, the controller will turn off then back on… so you won’t have uninterrupted use of the aux input…. I’m waiting to get me a Terminal Mix 8 and will try and remember to test how the aux input works as it’s not USB powered. Also, hoping that I can control a deck with timecode… can’t wait for more info on the TM8 and some hands on…. Keep shining folks, Moonshadow

ParticipantSo, I now have in my possession, 2 ZLX 12″ powered tops, and one ZXA1 Sub. I may get a second sub later, or may get the first of my upgrade system and not use 2 subs, just the small one or the big one. I plan to get a 3rd ZLX 12″ top for backup and to sometimes use as a monitor. I may go ahead and get the second ZXA1 sub to have a pair, going to give myself some time with it but so far I’m happy, and it should do nicely with the types of gigs I can imagine doing in the near future. I have 3 small kids and had company over the weekend(gear was delivered Friday), so haven’t gotten to listen to them a whole lot yet, or blast them at all really, but I am more than happy with these EV speakers, and the price was pretty fair I think. They look nice, and the covers should help keep them looking nice and a little safer, and they scream ” we mean business ” …. LOL Just one with the sub, or by it’s self, is pretty decent and loud in a small space, the pair without the sub is pretty nice sounding too, can’t wait to try them in other spaces. I’ll chime back in with more input once I’ve had some more time with them. Keep shining folks, Moonshadow

ParticipantRight on guys, please give any input you can once you get a chance to check out the Reloop…. I have pre-ordered the Terminal Mix 8, and some of the reasons include, the RGB pads and similar layout to my Mixtrack Pro 2, long pitch faders, large jogs that will hopefully be as good or better for scratching, or should I say learning to scratch…, 4 ch. mixer section, and being powered, not USB powered. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. So far I’m loving the lights and speakers, they will be a great start for me to add to over the next couple years. Just about ready to start actively seeking gigs, hope to have some pics of my setup and lighting soon. Stoked, thanks to all who make DDJT so great!
Now to learn to use this Maschine Mikro and 2.0 software,… not nearly as simple as hooking up the PA system…LOL
Keep shining folks…. MoonshadowIsaiah Furrow

ParticipantI no longer want a DJM/CDJs … I will still keep an analog mixer or 2 around, and would love an SRT if it wasn’t so spendy…. a 2 ch. Pioneer mixer, for Serato… like the Pio/Serato version of the Z2 would be cool. I would buy an SZ for the price of about one Nexus player or the SRT… and a nice pair of laptops…. and… and…. LOL If you are serious, want some serious kit to start, and aren’t just totally confused by the pricing of Pioneer gear, then by all means, it’s what YOU want and what YOU like to use that counts. Just for perspective, I am upgrading due to my current controller being just not quite “pro” enough. I was looking at the SR, but am likely pre-ordering the Reloop TM8 instead. I would think that these are “pro” enough to get you through at least a couple years of learning and gigs. If you really want top notch stuff, the high end gear from N.I., Pioneer, Denon, Reloop, and others all deserves a good look. I would definitely spend a good number of hours researching what you want to do and how, what software you want to use, and then make a short list of controllers from that …. then compare and compare and sleep on it…. I have been researching for a good long while and am just now comfortable with my decisions, or almost…LOL But I wouldn’t take that kind of purchase lightly, for me $3000 is a LOT of money, roughly the cost of the most expensive car I’ve ever purchased. I would look into what each setup would let you do, just one example, FEW of the CDJs let you do HOT CUES from my understanding. I loved it when I first made a loop in Serato Intro and realized I could adjust both in and out points very easily. I love the navigation on Serato as opposed to a small screen and lists from a USB. There are some differences in these 2 types of setups, and I personally would look into it very hard before buying a DJM/CDJ setup, aside from nice used CDJs at a very good price, and a DJM-250(still want one of these…LOL) Just my $.02, and it’s really only worth $.01, I’m a NOOB….
