MemberI waveride, synching the choons visually and aurally with the jogs… which is bone idle and gives mega problems when going back to playing vinyl, i’ve started trusting my eyes more then my ears if that makes sense

MemberEmma, i have mates (Still vinyl junkies) that are FAR more technically adept then me, but they stress days before a gig right up up to the gig, practice, set lists, more practice more set list tweaking… even during the practice they wont drop a beat all night, yet they still stress about perfection.
A few month back everyone played a club for a mates birthday, a very popular guy so everyone wanted to play, two rooms and more then enough DJ’s, when another mate rang and said he wished he could get a slot. I rang birthday boy and pleaded with him to sort something.
A slot was eased in and he rang me to thank me, so i asked what set he planned…. Mate:” Oh nothing planed, just gonna bring my record bag and me” Me: “you are aware everyone else has been sweating over sets all month?” Mate: “No problem!”I swear on my life his was the best set of the night, and EVERYONE played an absolute blinder, played their heart out, his just had an extra spark… Dunno if if it was because i knew he was winging it or what, it was simply amazing!
I have a recording of that set i can sendspace if anyone is interested 😉U31
MemberAlright alright, i cheated with the Wood Allen/ Gentlon combination, this was always a classic pairing for those old enough to to remember BITD 😉
Sitting here in the cold light of sobriety Tone Zone to Wood allen was a total train wreck, that would have been better as a cut rather then transition, but hey ho that’s how it goes 😀U31
MemberGettin out of the trainwreck live is half the fun tho…
At the time of this set Id just bought and / or blagged from mates, these choons, I played them for listening to, but never played em in a set before, so i threw em together to see what came out, see what you think?
Sometimes you just gotta wing it.U31
MemberSeamless, dude! Great work there for sure

MemberCheers… Ill spin that when i get home at 6…
Excuse the levels and mixing on this, it had been a solid month of birthdays and big nights out and i hadnt done anything but get wrecked!

MemberThe easiest to mix without a doubt is modern… 1999 to present House like the Hed Kandi outfit put out.
The stuff i enjoy most to mix is 90’s progressive house.. oh and a bit of the above 😉U31
MemberWe hear EVERYTHING through them ‘Phones , the audience doesn’t, i think that’s why to us we notice every nuance, but everyone else misses it as stated, a dj MIGHT notice, but he’d just nod his / her head and think “Yup” you’re human too!
recording is different to live too, you get away with loads live but because you know anyone can hit rewind it makes you super critical.
A mate recorded his set from one of our nights and slipped a CD of it in to all our Chrimbo cards – and it was as fantastic as the night it was played
A couple of days later another cd came in the post asking to destroy the original as he wasnt happy and he’d run it through Cubase to correct it. This guy is a top name DJ in the north of England by the way… If he can find fault then heaven help all us lotU31
MemberOooh no, i disagree with bass ALL the way down on the incoming track.. have it up just a little if you imagine the dail on the eq’s going from 7oclock to 5 oclock set it say 8 and a little bit… .. you lose so much “Richness” from the mid with the bass cut entirely
Also try cutting up that eq mixing.. totaly cut treble and mid from the incoming track and gradually replace the B line on the playing track with the new b line… fading out the playing b line as you go then bring in mid at a point that wont clash, dropping mid on the playing track. and so on. Vary this. being a one trick pony soon gets boring.
On hard tracks use them filters.. they are there, they are tools like the eq’s and faders so use em, have the filter set all the way, whatever way is up to you, on the new incoming track fade out as turn the filter back to mid…
Hope that made sense.. it did in my head lolU31
MemberSashas mixing leaves me cold to be perfectly honest, but i’ll deffo get on that mix of your’s.. 😉
Get more of your everyday stuff up on mixcloud btw..U31
MemberAfter i tunes automatically renamed a helluva lot of my choons to something completely random, with zero bearing on the actual track title artist or year, i never used it again… that was maybe 6 year ago?
U31
MemberDeep… seriously deep … are all yer sets like that?
I might have to follow you in your own right.. sod the compo 😀U31
MemberI really hate that about mixcloud competitions, being more of a popularity contest… i dont collect hundreds of false friends on FB , just the 100 or so real mates i actually work, MTB ride and go on the lash with, so promoting mixes for comps is a non starter!
