Lovin’ the skins on Icemans kit, i agree, it kinda says “I’m here, its my kit” when he rocks up to a gig with his personalised gear..

Scratch the above… I just tested that theory and its absolute rubbish!
    I took a 3.39 minute 128kbps track, 3434 kb and encoded it at 320kbps..
The file size did indeed rise to 8582 kb..
Looks like ear ‘oles and spectrum analyzers are the only test!

File size is a give away too, you know that 5 minute of audio at 320kbps should be around 10000 to 13000 KB and 128 kbps around 4500, –
5 minutes is 300 seconds, times this by bitrate
Encoding higher something ripped at 128KBPs isnt going to increase the file size that much

^^^^ He’s right, but i play Progressive house which aint a million miles away from Trance in terms of composition…
Id much rather let the choon do the talking… for me my bit of “Remixing” or stamping my own authority on a track selection is during the transition blend from one track to another, and sometimes thats when i really go wild..
about the onnly effects id consider using… sparingly too at that, are filters, but that could be considered mixing on the eq’s… a big part of transition mixing anyway, then next phasing, then right down there echo and reverb..

You’d probably hate this, but just for an example give it a listen and if truly offends your ears just fastforward to about 27.15 in – Evolution-Jaywalkin’… its timestamped and the track will highlight when you get to it..

Jaywalking – Is there anybody out there & Control are all mixed together for that entire 12 or so minute section, B line from one, mids from another, hi hats from the 3rd track and i’m constantly switching them around during the entire session- swap out the b line from the other track as i bring in the mids and synths from the next..
Its about as in your face as i get

    My favourites?
They are all mates of mine, in no order of preference Jason Dobie, Chirs Pearson (Blackburn Bod), Barrie Jay, James Glover (Jiglo) & Mick Andrews (Pluto, or Grover )

Edit: How could i have forgot Adam Wilson (DJ Adam W), this guys skill and musical knowledge is almost unbelievable, he almost puts Pluto’s in the shade and Plutes (Quad, Hazy days among many other clubs) really does have an encyclopaedic bordering on anorak knowledge of music of all genres.
Adam’s a truly humble and all round nice guy as well, any night out is instantly brightened when he rocks up

And not really mates but i know them to speak to or nod me head towards Paul Welding (DJ Welly) & Jon Dasilva

… And even follow the links to buy a tune you like, or there is also a link to other djs that have used that tune, to give you a chance to listen to how others have used it, and also give you more of an idea of other tunes you may not have considered will go with the tune you are following in different mixes

I hung round with some of the pioneers of the Northwest rave scene back in the day, DJ’s from the Revenge parties in Blackburn, from the warehouse beach and quarry days. I didnt know these people at the time but have come to know them now, years later and still hang around with a few of them
Later as it became mainstream i got to know through my mate at the time, the guys running the Pleasuredrome in Farnworth, later Bowlers
Through this mate i also met the guys who ran the first ever legal (I think this is true but i’m not certain – i’ll bet there were a lot claiming to run the first ever legal night! ) indoor rave in Bolton in a sports centre at Silverwell Street – and i sure as hell dont remember any rave being anywhere other than a warehouse we had broke in to or in a quarry on the moors above Bolton Blackburn Chorley or Anglezarke before that night at Silverwell street.
This was run by an ACE couple, Mark and Morag, respectively a Youth worker and a Solicitor! Where are they now i wonder!

Lets get this straight, back then i was Rubbish! I’d mainly play at after parties, there was so much better talent playing then me, a few have become big names!

In the late 90’s the kids came along, work got more stressful and demanded more time, the mountain bike went first, then 1 deck and the mixer, then the other replaced by some crappy mid level hi fi turntable, many housemoves saw the vinyl dwindle almost to nothing.
I virtually quit going out, untill 2007 i got in touch with some of the above people, and found an oldskool website- they were still partying and djing and running House nights, so i went along just for the buzz.
Now i was going out again i was casting a critical ear on some of the pub DJ’s getting paid for stealing a living, they were crap, my mates were doing for free or beer a million times better then these goons, and i knew i was much better too…
So decided it was time to put my money where my mouth is, but i had no decks & no vinyl to speak of and no room for either in the house

I was in bed one day with the laptop and youtube on the go.. Ultramarine, lights in my brain – spooky remix and then i played Beloved’s Back to Basics mix of its alright, and i heard that they would mix well…
So i opened another youtube window .. well they mixed ok, but only if there was a way of altering pitch with the laptop..

A few trial downloads of dj software later, a midi controller- and then i found myself here!

Oh yeah, i bought a new downhill mtb rig and a Cross country rig way before i bought a midi controller.. i know where my loyalties lie!
