Yeah i get that feeling too, as an intermediate between getting a MIDI and wanting the old hands on feel i split the decks on VDJ with a soundcard and used an analogue mixer.. I sold it when i got the midi and kinda regret it now, and i’m hankering after a pair of CDJ’s

I’ll never go back to vinyl though, Wayyyy to much expense

Lol that vid uses a similar method to what i do.. find a strong beat in the ‘phones than deliberately overspeed the new tune , i sort of wobble the pitch fader up and down slightly as i take the pitch down and this sort of lines the beats up with only a little nudge on the jogs or turntable

I Deffo agree on what was said above, somtimes it goes out of beat after you brought in the new tune, its best just to quickly get out of it rather then panic trying to get everything back in beat

Sometimes you aint got a choice if your coming on after someone else… then its more of a panic to think of something that can link their last choon to the first of your set if you have pre arranged it… Of course this doesn’t apply to those talented lucky buggers who can play out on the fly!

Other.. i posted in another thread how my Lenovo and Omnicontrol fit in my laptop bag along with all the leads, PSU, folding headphones and a pair of citronics soundcards that allow me top jack in to the lines of an analogue mixer with Virtual DJ so if all goes fubar i can mix with that..

I got the best of both worlds with my system Smittten,
I will “folder” a selection of ” Similar” tunes , say for a 1 hour set ill add one and half hours worth – factoring on 3 to 4 minutes per choon, to a desktop new folder From out of my music partition.
Then i work out what i can do with that selection of choons and organise them in to a set. wheat gets seperated from chaffe…
    But……

Mid set if some idea comes to me of a choon that will just fit, or, a request that will also fit, i can do a quick system wide search and quickly add it in to the set

BTW, Anyone looking through my mixcloud followers and people i’m following, look for the profile of a very good friend of ours, http://www.mixcloud.com/barriejay/ The guy is a LEGEND… He’s been DJing since the Northern Soul Scene, He got in to EDM fairly late on but was one of the founding DJ’s of ZONE in Blackpool… All done on vinyl (but if i know Barrie corrected in Cubase before getting upped to Mixcloud..

Barrie and the rest of the Jenks / ZONE dj’s will be running a reunion on the 23rd of this month in Blackpool- if anyones interested i can post links
