MemberI’ll bet my ass you are running Windows 7?
ASIO hates 7 on laptops… FACT.
The solution is cheap as chips though… Dual boot windows XP and windows 7, keep 7 for normal laptop duties and reserve XP for DJ software only.
I’ve been running like this for 2 year, with only one blue screen of death when doing a lot of work in Ableton while running Virtual DJ at the same time. I think i got a conflict as both were trying to use the same midi controlerU31
MemberAgree with Phil, Schwwweeet idea to keep all your mixes under one heading, it saves trawling the entire forum for a particular mix

MemberAgreed, Traktor’s beatgrid system is why i went back to Virtual dj, where i use me lug holes and jog wheel nudges to keep tracks in beat..
Got to say i’m loving Ableton, even tho at the very first it appeared to be everything i despise about traktor, but with knobs on..The warping soon becomes intuitive, with only a few tracks throwing curve balls so farU31
MemberSweet Emma! I think Phil needs to get you to write about Ableton for the main Blog pages
Thanks for taking the time out to explain… And trust me.. id rather the “baby steps” and learn properly the first timeU31
MemberI dont think it would come naturally to anyone who had experienced “Conventional” DJing to be honest. The first step is to download the trial from Ableton and do the lessons that come with it, and then look at Emma’s posts and try to apply what she says to what you have leant in the lessons.

MemberYou shouldn’t be worried about divulging secrets. What separates you from the padawan is your talent and experience. They can’t steal that!
^^^^^^ That there..

Great reply Emma, but for me:
How ‘You’; and ‘Any Man/Woman ‘Becomes’ a DJ is when they say;
‘That is a Cool Transition There; But Listen To How Much Better ‘I’ Feel It Sounds When You Do It This Way‘Would read: “But listen to how i do that differently”…. (Unless of course the guy pulled of a total trainwreck and you could show a better way! :lol
I dont believe there are “wrong” or “right” ways to do anything in life, just ways that work or dont, and if different ways and styles do work and get excellent results then vive la difference!

That’s exactly how i run it, running through laptop speakers loses so much quality anyhow i only do it to see if the harmonics of tunes are similar when im figuring out a set..

MemberThis way i think might work but i promise that nine times out of ten you’ll get latency issues of the phones being a mile out from the master
Output:external mixer
Soundcard : 2 cards (The asio from the mixtrack and 2nd is whatever your lappy has in built) Primary sound driver (lappy) and Asio (phones)
The other option is one of them £1 usb headphone soundcards and set that as the headphone out, thse work with no issues.. i know, its what i did first long before i found this place!U31
MemberThere is your problem, you want to use your laptop speakers and you cant as there is no second soundcard to run the headphones. I have omnicontrol so am not 100% sure about the mixtrack but there should be 4 rca outs, 1&2 are master 3&4 are phones and a headphone jack for phones as well.
You need to get your master sound from these 1&2 rca’s
Can you not run a line in to your hifi?U31
MemberAwesome!

MemberRight then.. Config on the top right as you look at it-
Sound set up.
Inputs: none
Outputs ( i do this a few ways but easiest is) Headphones (second icon on dropdown ) master: chan 1&2 / headphones :chan 3/4sound card: asio driver (4th dropdown) then click ultra latency and see if it works fine with no sound drop outs. if it does act weird de select and click asio config to find highest stable latency

MemberI@m sure the trial doesnt allow headphones, its what nags you to buy lol
Might be best uninstalling and reverting to your LE copy … Lemme fire up mine and check the settings but bear in mind im on pro7 full here..U31
MemberThe worst offenders seem to those of my generation, hovering around 40 years old who were at the original warehouse parties in 88 / 89 for some strange reason..
Rose tinted glasses or clinging on to the past?
They conveniently forget get the guys like Welly, Vertigo, etc (who i know for certain DJ on DAW) were also there too at the beginning, they dont get piled with abuse.
In fact every time i’ve seen Vertigo play in the last few years it aint been on VinylU31
MemberTrust me Phil, it wouldnt be nowhere near as bad as me when i first started i shudder with embarrassment thinking back to the first time i was unleashed on a pair of turntables with big ideas and zero talent to back ’em up
