MemberInnit, if you believe all that marketing BS that Tall Pall, Oakenfold and Sasha among others pull off those seamless mixes by using Camelot System software you DESERVE to have your money extracted from your pocket…
They pull off those seamless mixes by using their years of experience, their musical ear and an inside out knowledge of their tunes! And maybe, just maybe – but way down the list, running tunes through key analysis software..
Remember when most of the big names cut their teeth it was on vinyl which changes key as you alter the pitch to beatmatch.Don’t get me wrong, Camelot is a very valuable guide, but it is just another tool for your DJ box and you need the basic skills to use all your DJ tools

MemberHmmm
a great idea but My two penneth..
Mixed in Key / Harmonic mixing AINT the be all and end all you know?
Loads of my mixes in theory, if you strictly adhered to Harmonic mixing, shouldn’t work
(yeah yeah shurrup you lot at the back saying ,”But they dont work, Mista!” :p )Edit: oops somehow missed Smitten’s post saying something similar…. Carry on!

Single and destined to remain single springs to mind. Shocking.

Still, unless they are hardcore party animals, an 8 PM start will probably mean everyone’s trashed and “done” by 12.
Lol sounds like a sheltered life!
Some of our after event parties started on the Saturday we played and ended the Friday after!
Im talking very recently too!
The charity event on sunday we didnt get home till 8am monday and we left Liverpool at 3.40am!
Got back to Manchester and dropped off the photographer at her home, and straight to the home of a couple who’d just DJ’d the Creamfields Back by Dope Demand after party who were still going strong on their own home decks!
We only left at 7.40 to catch what zeds we could so we looked human again when we picked the kids up from Grandma at 5pmTo answer the original question, it has to be wifey time, for sure. To neglect family life sets a real bad bad precedent, even if your the only DJ at the party. Next step is the divorce courts.
As you can imagine at our parties the rooms are swamped with people who can spin and that is not an exaggeration, and we still resort Winamp playlists or internet radio at early o clock when at times we are all played outU31
MemberA few pics from Miriam, official photographer of the night on Facebook..
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.280653491949036.86287.126783257336061&type=1Oh yeah, you wanna know what goes on backstage at these big events?

And even big name DJ’s can stil Hero Worship!

It’s gonna take some doing to top this night, but i say that every time and they just get better!

MemberI dunno where to start… the night was a total blur!
All the PA’s were totally Ace but we missed most of each of them as we were in the green room or backstage, i dont normally like Mike Knowler but he, gawd bless him, went against the expected Quadrant park type set & played to the crowd and pulled of a brilliant deep prog set 😀
Marshal & CE Ce totally blew the roof off and then it was Barries turn..
Barrie is a pure vynalist but there were CDJ’s on the stage, in an odd layout that favoured the CDJs over the 1210’s so you had to really reach for the mixer.
I was on stage with him getting pics and i could see him really struggling, i wouldn’t say fluffing mixes because they went smoothly enough, but i would say compromising his usual style
Near the end he turned to me and Maz and in all seriousness and totally concerned, asked “Did i do allright?”
I just pointed out to the crowd going Ape and said what do you think?
Barrie all worried:

And the crowd reaction!

John J, Barries mate and old partner from the Zone was up next and lifted the bar again… The two best sets of the night as far as im concerned especially going on directly after the godfathers of house!
John J Smashing it

Again we missed Steve Perrys last set of the night due to being in the green room during, but from the sounds drifting downstairs the crowd lapped it up!

MemberLatest news from Ian the promoter..
” Ce Ce is in the back of the car trying to teach Daisy (Ian’s Toddler daughter) to rap!!” 😀Not long now, a quick disco nap, a shower and then go and pick the gang up who we are going with..
Photos no doubt will follow 😀U31
Member4wd car.. the limits are very deceptive and when they go beyond the limit they very very suddenly become a handful.
i’ve only raced or track day’d 2wd drives, front and rear wheel drive so i’m no expert mind.

MemberYou know that ANY advice is welcome Emma!
And i am total newby to the world of Digital djing- therfore YOU have a greater experience then me in that respect 🙂
I can only string together a half decent set digitally because of the similarity of the software i chose, to mixing the old way.. it really is just 2 or more decks and mixer with the option of a few nice effects and tricks.I have decided it is time to bite the bullet and get conversant on the software that i wasnt comfortable with, and with Ableton, that downright frightened me!
The lessons learnt in Ableton gave me a better understanding of Traktor, and that is why i decided to practice with Traktor again a bit more-
its just been a bit of a blow to the ego when attempting these sets leads to frustration!U31
MemberThat is precisely the problem Emma… Even with the small amount i have so far learned in Ableton, i would do a seamles mix, Guaranteed. Because my mindset would be different for mixing and warping in Ableton.
And i would definitely warp the Set.. Its a tool and i’d use it.Virtual Dj for me is pretty close to vinyl or cdj’s, like serato… So my mind sort of slips in to that kind of mixing by feel vibe.
Now Traktor to me is like some halfway house between Ableton but rather than embracing this, my mind seems to rail against it and treat it like im using VDJ, when its patently not!
Give me a modern house track list and i could mix in Traktor as well as any other software, it only seems to be oldskool warehouse and acid house stuff.
I suppose the answer is practice practice practiceU31
MemberAnyhow im gonna quit getting wound up about it, get the Laptop out and treat myself to a progressive house session :p
