The problem with second hand 1210’s the inevitable wear, these things tend to get hammered and a novice probaly wont be aware what to check for and how to check.
The usual favourite faults are the tone arm bearings and the pitch control. Intermittent faults with internal breakages in the RCA leads, faults where the cartridge plugs in (Yeah i have spent what feels like a lifetime blowing down the terminals for the cart plug to clean out the inevitable rubbish that collects down there as each dj swaps his own over – dirt down there means no or limited sound to the mixer) and ham fisted attempts to alter the pitch control range and brake characteristics Pots under the platter
Factor in a couple of hundred for a service and replacement of any worn items and those £200 decks dont look so cheap

The Stanton’s are looking the best way to go by a long chalk

I think the point about downloading vast quantities of music is, how will you ever sort out the wheat from the chaff?

Phil has pointed out on many occasions that less is very often more, even to the point where he deleted his library and kept a small amount of his core choons.
    Madness?

    Well lets think about that.
Phil will now get to know those tunes INSTINCTIVELY. There isn’t a vast choice to now fall back on, so this and knowing every nuance of his music library he will be FORCED to be become more creative with what he has available.
Forced to be creative with the tunes he has kept. Meaning the tunes he loves.
    Who benefits? The audience!
Trust me when the DJ is having a blast, the audience will pick up on that vibe

The true evil of mass downloading for a DJ is you just dont know, can not know what you have.
There might be a real killer track whos name you dont know in there somewhere, hiding among the many thousands and you’ll never know unless one day you play it by accident

When i was young and daft, i used to be an Audiophile
    Arcam everything.
    Gold interconnects
    Oxygen free screened cables
    Bi wire amps
Speakers set to the millimetre a certain distance from their surroundings

Then i had kids and sold the lot and bought the Aiwa that still sits in front of me today, with the exception of the TDL monitors because i blew up the old speakers doing tone tests

When i bought the Aiwa and the sound was almost indistinguishable from kit 5 times more expensive i realised a fool and their money are soon parted 😀
For the slight difference it was in NO way worth the extra money
For the record my right ear is well above my age average in tone tests, and my left is only a few Hz down which the doctor puts down to in my 20’s, gunfire without ear defenders and also the loud straight cut gearboxes and race exhausts in the track day cars i had then.

Nothin’ to to with hanging of the speaker rig at Wigan Pier for all those years then eh? lol

The surprise of the night was Mike Knowler, Phil.. its no big secret that im not his biggest fan musically, but that night, he threw the Quadrant Park rule and Tune list right out and played a piano / prog house set and really played to the crowd, the floor was electric. He worked his heart out…
I have photo’s of him as he was finishing and he was drenched in sweat!

Oh yeah… Maggie from Scarlet Fantastic… THE most genuine all round nice person EVOH! She is just 100% percent brilliant!
At one point it was “said in jest ” by one of the crowd that they would give the charity £100 for a private session from Maggie..
He & his family & friends got dragged down to the green room and treated to an accoustic set from Scarlet fantastic..

I have on rare occasions caught the jogs to brutally honest, but never enough to cause a trainwreck.. at worst its sounded like when vinyl jumps

My Omni has been faultless, i like you tend to play trancey / progressive and dont scratch.
The better build quality & amount of controls that i could individually map was the winner for me, i dont think i really miss the touch sensetive jogs as they are just used for cuing and pitchbending
Its stood up to a LOT of abuse AND it fits in the back section of my Thinkpads carry case with my entire kit, less headphones. But i do have some smaller fold down cans that will fit in the bag.
The sound? I’d say its very good but judge for yourself – bear in mind this was recorded at a low 128 kbps to fit inside mixcloud’s limits
