I’m stoked on this too. I think I’ll go back and re-watch them for the heck of it.

What’s your actually budget? There’s lots of knowledge on this site but “cheap as possible” is pretty hard to quantify.

OMG, upgrade to VDJ8 Pro, ASAP! It’s a stiff investment but you get updates for life and it’s an amazing piece of software with a deep user base. A pro license allows you access to all of the user generated content (effects, skins, etc). Especially if you have already grown accustomed to the lite version . . . I wouldn’t even hesitate. PS I use the MC3000 as my pro rig.

I would never recommend doing this since you are jumping in soo soon but you should be spending every waking moment between now and then working with djay on your ipad. You can set up a spotify playlist on your laptop then mix from that with djay on the ipad. If you really want to mix, use the djay app + spotify combo so you can set cue points. Your mixing will consist of dropping each new track on the 1. Look up how to drop songs on the 1, practice that all week and then mix that way all night. In a bar or club, considering it’s your first time and you are amongst friends, you can drop on the 1 all night.

If it were me, I’d be overnighting a WeGO 3 to my crib asap so that you have an actual mixer with an onboard soundcard to headphone cue with because mixing on the ipad is fiddly. Your main problem will be that you will have to resort to splitting the left and right output signal from either the ipad with djay and spotify, or the laptop with something like VDJ’s free version and the laptop in order to headphone cue. Whatever you do, you should have a plan on how your going to do it by the end of the day today. If it’s djay on the ipad, buy it and start practicing.

Lastly, don’t play bangers all night long, that’s wack.

Stretch your budget and grab a pair of Pioneer HDJ 1500 headphones. The important thing about them is that they have a very low impedance rating so they are easily powered by iOS devices. If that doesn’t work, grab anything from Koss because they have a lifetime warrantee.

I had this happen with my laptop and bought an expensive power conditioner (which makes my hi-fi system actually sound better, no joke) which didn’t fix the hum. The hum was heard in my subwoofer and was super annoying. In desperation I put a 3-prong adaptor on my laptop power supply and that made it stop forever (at least at that location) I never took it off and never tested it without the adaptor when playing out, I just left it on.

Sounds like you got a good deal. Clearly results vary with Windows computers. Do your research but I’m pretty sure that asio4all is only an asio emulator and would actually require more resources and provide lower performance than the manufacturer’s dedicated asio driver.
