1st: Please post in the correct forum This makes our volunteer moderator lives a lot easier and it isn’t rocket science after all. I moved this post from Forum News, FAQ and Feedback (where it clearly didn’t belong) to the DJ Booth.

My apologies! My interpretation was that the “Forum News, FAQ and Feedback” was the correct place to address matters to the staff of the site.

I did a few searches prior to posting, but was not able to find anything directly related to the DDJT courses and Rekordbox. If you got the link to the post covering this, I will of course read up on that. Maybe my searching-zen is off these days.

    Hi!

I’ve had problems reaching the site a few times today, both main site and forum section. It ended up with a “503 Service Unavailable” message. I checked connectivity from work (I’m a network engineer at a service provider) and I saw the connectivity to the GoDaddy SLB was OK, which means that the problem is either SLB related, or the actual webserver itself.

I looked over GoDaddys (http://status.godaddy.com/) which said all green, but it’s no secret tht GoDaddy can do maintl. updates and planned downtime without reporting it, or informing their customers.

    FYI,

I would assume, in a setting where a laptop is used in conjunction with a controller or mixer, that I/O (like USB) latency is equally, if not more, important?

The bus architecture of any PC platform is usually the clogged pipe when utilizing software that relies on low latency interaction between input/output ports and cpu/memory. There are tools available to measure this latency, and I’ve seen quite a few examples of “high-end” laptops giving higher internal cyclic latency then say simpler “workbooks”. You’ll never notice these variations in latency (called jitter) when you surf the net, watch youtube or use simpler apps. However – when you fire up realtime applications, especially in conjuction with I/O intensive operations – you could be in for a surprise.

A quick search for phrases like “micro stuttering” or “micro stuttering realtime” will elaborate on this specific issue. DPC Latency Checker is one of many tools used to visualize the internal latency in a PC. There are several that check other parameters and do other kinds of tests as well.

Hi Aaron, and welcome! Thank you for sharing your story! Seems like you are well underways to building skill and that you’ve got your workflow figured out. I can relate to the “This is too much – I’m not a DJ!” thoughts. I’ve had those thoughts myself, and they’ve been the grind that has kept me away from taking the first step.

Then one day, quite recently, I decided it’s time to take that first step, take a chance, give it a go. You don’t really know if you are good at something, before you give it a try. I’m new in here myself, but I can +1 your comment about a welcoming and kind community – and for me – that’s very important. To be able to share my successes and failures with others that understand, to walk the path from the basic headaches up the stairs – for me – it wouldn’t be fun to do that alone.

I wish you all the luck in the world, and like you ended your post with – have fun!

    Cheers from Norway,

Don’t forget, RekordBox also lets you float off the library/browser as a seperate window.

If OPs plan is to use the same laptop on the road – I’m guessing external monitors are out of the question. To that end I’d recommend getting used to seeing everything on one monitor.

Thank you for your kind reply, DJ Vintage! I’ve actually been stalking both the forum, the review section and hauled through most of the youtube videos for quite some time. In fact, it was when I decided to go for the DDT DJ Course that I first started writing here.

My reason for looking at the RecordBox route is that I’ve been using just the RecordBox software for quite a while to sort and play my music – mostly just to get to know the software, and I really like it. It’s simple, intuitive and not overrun with features and knobs. Also, it seems fairly easy to get help with it online. I know the digital DJ software part of it is is fairly new, and lacks maturity, and that it doesn’t keep up with Serato or VirtualDJ in terms of functionality – but after looking at both of the latter alternatives – for me it just seemed like the easiest way to get started. But like you said – further research should be done on this.

As for the RZ, it seems to offer an experience close to what I can expect with the traditional CDJ/DJM setup – which pretty much seems to be the only thing people over here are using. I was initially hoping to start out with CDJ-2000NXS/DJM-900NXSes – naively hoping they’d drop in price after the NXS2 launch a while back – but no such luck. To that end, with a proper reality slap to the face – start out smaller.
