ParticipantHi,
This is the same problem as described before. Ask OP if there were hyperlinks in the post. Topics are normally prepended or prefixed with a number or syntax to ensure that they remain unique in the databases, while visually presenting the correct information to the forum.
If this forum, for whatever reason, doesn’t do this – then that in itself is something to be fixed asap.

ParticipantThis is getting really annoying. There is obviously a problem with posting posts that refer to external content via URLs/hyperlinks. In most cases, a post containing an embedded URL doesn’t post at all. It doesn’t give an error message, it simply doesn’t post it to the board. If you try to repost it, you get an error message saying that the post already exists, which means that the original post with the links was submitted to the post database, but something is preventing it from being displayed. I suspect a faulty configuration in the security settings of the board itself, causing posts with certain link types to be blocked.

ParticipantHi Richard, and welcome to the forums! I think you’ve beaten all records when it comes to post lengths, but a very interesting read indeed. Sounds like you’ve lived quite the colorful life, and have many stories and interesting experiences to share. I really like how to depict and describe the failures as well as the successes. Being able to realize what works and what doesn’t work, and having the confidence to trust in our choices, is perhaps the most important quality when playing for a live audience. It’s impossible to cater the wishes of everyone, but as a DJ, you have the final say in what is played and what isn’t.
Some of the things you talk about in your post, especially the stuff pertaining to your workflow, is better suited for the other parts of the forum. I’d advice you to do a bit of searching and reading on collection assortments. If you post our mix in the Mixes section, people can provide you with general feedback on your mixing skills.
Best of luck!

ParticipantHi!
I’ve always favored SanDisk product. They are one of the leaders in memory cards, and offer a vast assortment of sizes and durability options. Unless you use the memory sticks as Swiss Army Knives, I don’t see why you would need a very rugged one. If you keep it in a casing with your DJ gear, it’s more than enough. The “rugged” part is usually the wrapping, extra layers of protection against moisture and stuff like that – it doesn’t really mean that the drive itself is more rugged.
There are many providers of hardware encrypted memory drives. Several of them are, according to the Pioneer DJ boards, not compatible with CDJs.
Also, keep speed in mind. If you are using uncompressed files, like FLAC, AIFF or similar. Uncompressed files are huge in size, and this greatly affects loading times on CDJs. A faster memory drive will load tracks faster. CDJ-900NXS and CDJ-2000NXS support USB 2.0, while NXS2 and XDJ-1000 incl. MK2 support USB 3.0.

ParticipantID3 tags are generic, and not iTunes specific. iTunes simply read the tags, and present them in the view. Rekordbox and MIK does the same.
Good ID3 tags are essential to any music collection.

ParticipantHi!
If your son is getting into DJing and mixing, but hasn’t really gotten into it yet, this seems like a huge waste of money to spend. If you have an older laptop/ipad/pc at home – start out with that. See if he likes it, and if he gets serious about it, after getting gigs etc, then looking at this again. Put the money into a decent controller, monitors and headphones, not to mention music.
My thoughts if you still continue to go ahead, though..
1. The Pro is vastly more durable. The Air, while sleek and sexy, doesn’t have the same tolerance for moving, impacts, vibration, etc.
2. I recommend the opposite. In fact, I’d make an effort to limit the selection of tracks from the very first day. Never go over 200-250 tracks in his digital libary. DJing is about knowing your music intimately, and if you have 20000 tracks, there simply isn’t any way to do that.

ParticipantHi! Interesting intro, maybe a bit too much talking and vocals for my taste, but the blending is good! 🙂 Nice flow throughout the mix, and the mixing is seamless.

ParticipantNothing special, really. I have a 14″ HP Elitebook with i5, 16GB mem and SSD. Hardware specs aren’t that important. The importance is in the OS and software. You’d want a minimalistic installation of Windows 10, ideally 64 bit. Make sure to use 64 bit drivers for your controller as well.
Before playing, disable the Windows 10 automagic update process. This must be done via Task Manager.

ParticipantHi,
I’ve been using Rekordbox DJ for quite a while now, and have had no stability problems with it. As always, when using a controller that relies on a computer – no DJ software will be more stable than then computer itself.

ParticipantHi,
I’m a newcomer to the game, and I’ve only used RBDJ with my DDJ-RZ controller, which means that I have no frame of reference to Serato, Traktor, etc.
What I can share, is my experience with stability, features and the overall feel of the software. I’ve been using Rekordbox for a year, and Rekordbox DJ for two months. So far, I haven’t experienced any glitches, stutters, delays or other annoying problems when using it. It’s fast and seemingly stable, and by looking at the PioneerDJ forums, I can tell that they are putting a lot of effort into catching up with Serato and Traktor.
These programs are toolboxes. They offer a set of features and packages, and they will pretty much be doing the same thing, regardless of which route you go. What you should choose is a matter of taste, what fits with your workflow, what kind of equipment will you be using, etc.

ParticipantThanks for sharing this mix! I’ve been trying to figure out pop mixing as well. I’ve also felt like it’s giving less room for creativity and performance features, and that it’s more about seamless transitions, like what Vintage describes above..
