First, some of the more basic things to check/try…

    – make sure the cue/master knob is turned all the way to cue.
    – make sure the up-fader on the cue channel is all the way down.
    – make sure the crossfader is all the way to the live side (not the cue side).

Still acting up? Then we move into software…

    – if on PC, make sure you installed up-to-date Denon ASIO drivers. Without ASIO, the unit looks like a single channel to your computer.
    – in Virtual, open the sound configuration page and let me know what options you have selected and we can go from there.

Virtual also supports the CDJ850s and has some impressive features as of version 8. I don’t believe the DJM700 has a sound card, so you’ll be using it as a traditional mixer and counting on software to support the players.

If I can find it, you can have it. No point in it just cluttering up my studio! Email sent for more details.

Where are you at? I may have one laying around I’d be willing to part with…

A tiny soundcard won’t be too hard to find and pack in your luggage, so that opens open some options. I’d look at what Faderfox has to offer. Extremely high quality gear, most of it is quite compact, and some of it even comes pre-built into slimline flight cases. They may not check off all your wishes, but you’ll likely get close.

SX2 is as close to an industry standard as you’re going to get for all-in-ones, so you can’t go wrong there. Plus it is just an all-around excellent machine. I’d be using one right now if I hadn’t gone back to modular.

I don’t know that specific model of M-Audio monitor, but based on the model # I’m going to assume it’s a 4″ driver. I’d strongly suggest looking at 5″ drivers as a minimum as anything smaller is going to have extremely limited low end response, and that’s going to frustrate you terribly when trying to mix on them. I can vouch for what Christopher said, JBL 305s are beautiful monitor speakers. I use them in a large space with no sub. The base isn’t “booming”, but you know it’s there, and you can play with it in your mix and have it translate well onto other speakers.

Why are people slow / resistant to updates? Well, consider this little saying…

“If builders built houses the way programmers build programs, the first woodpecker to come along would destroy civilization.”

As others have said, a lot of it comes down to personal preference, BUT if you can afford the 1000’s and a mixer over the RX, you’d be getting a modular system with much more flexibility and future proofing. The trade off of course is that it would also be a lot larger and heavier should you be trying to take it on the road.

There may be some “bar politics” at play here that you aren’t aware of. Around here most of the major bars & clubs are owned by a handful of people, and even though a venue may not be direct competition to another venue, if the owner of venue A hates the owner of venue B, nobody from A is allowed to work at B.

Or, it could be as simple as others have suggested and he doesn’t like that you are getting offers he isn’t.

Crackling sound can be a latency issue, but it can also be something as simple as bad cables. What version of Virtual are you using and what are your audio settings?

I’m in the process of going back to a modular setup. X1600 at the core, two SC2000s for transport and basic control, and two Neons for the fancy-pantsy pad stuff… After having tried a variety of combinations over the past 5 years (since switching to digital) this combination finally has me really excited.

The X1600 might work for you too. Traktor certified so no additional box required, and lots of midi controls on the mixer to map to whatever features you want.

Quick question – why aren’t you using the master out from the Pioneer SB?

You’re asking more of a software question than a hardware question — but generally speaking, you’d just plug the Launchpad’s USB into another port on your computer. Sound would still come out of your SX as the Launchpad has no sound card.

Now, the real question is what software are you using and what do you want to do with the Launchpad. For example, I use Virtual and use the Launchpad as a trigger for samples and video clips. I have the output mapped to a channel on my mixer. In Virtual it’s just a matter of setting a few items in the config and tweaking the mappings how you like them.

AIAIAI TMA-1s here – couple of months in with them now and been extremely happy with the purchase. Always used Sony cans before with mixed feelings.

Drooled all over the NOCS, or at least I would have liked to have. No Canadian distributors made them a pain in the ass to try and buy so ended up passing on them.

RCA is an unbalanced output, so the cable you would need would be RCA (male) to 1/4″ mono (male). If you can’t find the cable, there are also RCA to 1/4″ adaptors that just plug into one end of an RCA cable.
