ParticipantIt certainly looks slick. I like the interface.

ParticipantDoubtful you’ll find reviews yet as it still isn’t publicly available. Will be later this month, early next month according to official channels.

ParticipantSoftware:

Terry forgot to throw Virtual into the mix – it would also meet your needs for features, and has the added perk of being compatible with almost every piece of hardware out there. It also has powerful mapping options allowing you to map out buttons on whatever controller you choose to other features.Hardware:

As others have said, you aren’t going to get close to what you need with the budget you’re talking about. If you don’t want to blow the bank right now on some bigger gear, you could get yourself some button boxes to add to your current setup.Todd Oddity
ParticipantI’ve loaded Win 10 on my oldest, slowest machine and the difference is quite dramatic. However, I haven’t had a chance yet to go into the settings in detail to see if it is trying to use the same trick of Win 8 where when you shut down it is only hibernating the system instead of a full shut down.

ParticipantUgh, this is why I hate private parties. For private parties I do book, I always frame the agreement like this at the time of signing — give me a list of five songs you love and five songs you hate. It discourages them from providing huge lists, but it lets them communicate what they do and don’t like so I get a better sense heading in…

ParticipantI strongly disagree with waiting until the first service pack to upgrade as often there are other system performance benefits and improvements that you’d be missing out on, but yes, in general you shouldn’t update your gig computers until the software you use has released a compatible version for the new OS. Right now all of the big three have not done so, although Virtual has a Win 10 compatible beta out now apparently.
Side note, this is not just a Windows issue as has been suggested – Apple OS updates have caused problems before in the past too. No matter the system, it is best to hold off at least a few months.

ParticipantVintage: Agree the traditional CDJ is on the way out, but the XDJ 1000 may give the CDJ “footprint” an extra lease on life as it is basically just a really big third of a controller. If it had pads on it instead of relying on the touchscreen I’d like it a lot more and could even see it quickly become the new industry standard, as I suspect clubs (assuming they keep providing any equipment at all – they no longer do in my neck of the woods) will continue to gravitate towards modular type configurations over the all-in-ones for the foreseeable future.
Vain Moo: What is your thinking behind wanting either of these over an all-in-one? Sometimes a good hard think about the “why” we want something helps figure out “what” fits our needs.

ParticipantYou have your definitions a little mixed up…
A mashup or remix is something you do to one track to change it up (probably only a few minutes long). A mixtape is a whole DJed set (many minutes, or even hours long).
A podcast is a form of distribution, one of many possible ways you could send out your mixtapes.
I’m generalizing a bit here, but hopefully you get the basics.

ParticipantIf you have to go into another layer to access transport controls, it is not going to be a good fit as a primary control surface. Play, Cue, and some sort of tempo control are the three basic elements you need – and you should be able to access them without having to hit a shift button.

ParticipantStazbumpa – the NOCs are beauuuuuuutiful! None to be heard around here, but I’d buy some just to stare at them. (drool)
Sorry, what were we talking about? Oh right…
I ended up with TMA-1s after my attempt to get some NOCs shipped here was proving to be insanely expensive (they apparently do not have a Canadian distributor). They colour a little heavy on the bass (not Beats heavy, but it is there), but I’ve been quite happy with the sound out of them. But headphones really are 100% personal preference. What one person likes, another will hate. I could probably use them as all-rounders if needed.

Participantlol – tell us what you think of CDJs Terry! 😉

ParticipantPick your software first, then pick your hardware.
– Serato needs a Serato certified controller
– Traktor works best with NI gear (you can use other stuff but it won’t be at peak performance)
– Virtual DJ works with pretty much anything, but is rarely included for free with anything these days.Todd Oddity
ParticipantYes, you can chain mixers like that. You take the RCA master output of the 700 and plug it into one of the line inputs of the 600. Just remember to keep the channel on your mixer from hitting the red so you don’t blow the channel (I don’t think 600s have built in compressors like some of the newer models).
If he’s badly in the red and distorting the sound, it will still sound like garbage but it shouldn’t damage anything (beyond his own mixer).
Good luck!

ParticipantCouple quick notes:
– Don’t assume all rooms are mono. Half the venues I play are are set up as mono, half use stereo. It varies from venue to venue.
– Never assume you’ll be able to EQ in your phones. I’ve used boards where the cans are pre-EQ.I’m with Vintage – I send out my tracks as close to flat as possible. It’s up to the bar to make sure they have the PA sounding right. That said, I do have the occasional track in my collection that I know needs adjustment, but I know those and set the EQs by memory for them now.

ParticipantMost mixers don’t have an option to set that, and it wouldn’t make a difference anyway – stereo or mono, it’s the timing your listening to.
