ParticipantAgree with Vintage but I think it is going to take a very long time for the existing Pioneer CDJ setups in most clubs to get replaced. You can do more on a controller for sure with the pads. If you add an SP1 to the club CDJ set up you basically have recreated an expensive SX2 when playing in HID mode. I play off Serato on SX2 , CDJ in HID and CDJ in USB RB mode. The only plus of USB is all you have to take to the club is a couple of USBs (one as back up or if no pro link) and a pair of headphones and sometimes that’s a great lightweight way to travel.

ParticipantNever too old! I’m 48 3/4! I started in earnest around three years ago to DJ, always loved music and that’s the key! Am now playing a gig about once every couple of months with a younger mentor in London. Last gig on Saturday was in a private members club and we sold out! Never too old! Just master your skills and learn how to network if you really want to play out. Put mixes on Soundcloud/mixcloud etc. too and regularly update so people can get a feel for your skills and music set. My biggest piece of advice is to be clear with yourself what you want to achieve and then have a clear plan (broken into steps) that you will follow to get there.

ParticipantAgree that the simplest solution is to play off your controller as Vintage suggests. Plan B would be to play off the CDJ in HID mode using serato so you get the benefit of all your cue points and the software you know well. But and its a big but it entirely depends on the CDJs and Mixer they have in the club. Most importantly you will need the Serato Club Kit if you wan to plug your laptop straight in and that costs $$$ and you need to check if the mixer is covered in the club kit. So to avoid problems I would get them to let you use your controller

ParticipantI echo Vintage take the starter course. It will save you hours of time and you will learn right form day one. Training, training, training and practice a little everyday. Enjoy!

ParticipantI want to wait to see if there is DVS and HID support for serato.
I want to see if the DJM 900NX2 is serato compatible with the current club license
Need to know more about the SP1 integration which was a piece of hardware built for serato
Ideally need Rekord buddy 2.0 to be released to allow for seamless cue point and metadata integration across serato and rekorbox / &DJ to make for seamless library integration
Does the CDJ NX2 offer MIK integration or only musical key notation?
SUbject to all of that it looks like a set up that would enable preparation and playing in many different configurations; serato, rekorbox, rekordbox DJ & DVS which would enable anyone to prepare for almost any environment they may find themselves in.Bedroom to booth which is what Pioneer want.
I’m sure rekordbox dj will get better and better but as others have said the serato partnership will not die overnight but will fade of a number of years and product cycles. I guess these wer sensible upgades that won’t confuse the installed user base but will equally make life fairly comfortable for those playing off a laptop or indeed coming form a controller background. Which is why it figures to leave the CD players in there. They won’t lose anyone by keeping them. i’m sure they will get used less and less over the years.Toby Joll
ParticipantSerato have announced problems with El Capitan and advise users to hold off updating until they resolve issues

ParticipantI would hold off for a bit NI has big problems. Unless you have no choice wait until Serato put out an update
