KeymasterNever share your library and a real DJ would never ask you to. They may ask what song and what version you are playing, but never to share the music itself.

KeymasterI can just tell you this:
I buy music from:
Amazon, Beatport and iTunes. However if only DJs buy your music, then you will not make much money anyways, but of course you need DJs to play your music to actually get sales.
So you have 2 ways to go about this:
Try to get to the main DJ sites for buying music, where beatport surely ranks high.
Try to do collaborations with other producers to get more exposure and link to the shops you are sold on.
Give out free downloads to well known DJs OUTSIDE your normal exposure zone, country or continent (a friend of mine from Europe got #1 on a station in Hawaii this way and made a nice woopin 300k from sales there).Of course you can do a combination of all of those. These would be my guesses, but since I am not a superstar seller myself, I am not a total expert on the matter hehe

KeymasterActually the 4s are not quieter than the 6s, they just have less base and are meant to be used with a subwoofer.
With the 6s or higher you can get away without a subwoofer, as their base is quite good. So unless you want to knock the socks of your neighbours you wont need a sub heheTerry_42
KeymasterHow you wire them (in what order) is actually not important. DMX works with an “address”. So you need to have the right address set in the fixture (usually via jumper switches or a setting in the units DMX settings).
So basically if the unit is configured correctly you can put them in any order you like.Terry_42
KeymasterWell if you want to go really small the Akai AMX/AFX combo is also great fun. Played with them a bit and it was amazing how much you could do (I actually used the one AMX, one AFX and one reloop Neon).
Terry_42
KeymasterHonestly you cannot do this on the fly in Ableton or Maschine. For those software solutions you have to do the prep work.
However you can do this in Serato, especially if you have the MCX 8000 controller, you can use the Pitch”n”Time plugin for sequencer tone adds and Serato Flip for snippets and have your way with all of that.
I am using this all the time and it is great fun.I cannot get into more detail on the how-to, but maybe Phil someday will make a course for those Serato features 🙂

KeymasterWise words by Phil. You have to jump in the water to learn to swim.
Most of the stuff I know came from learning in the job. Meet people, get ideas from other DJs, involve yourself.
Even at my age, meeting new people and DJs always brings fresh things to my game.Terry_42
KeymasterHey hey, you have come to the right place!
Terry_42
KeymasterWell Vestax is out of business, I would not buy anything where I do not get warranty.
The MC6000 Mk II is prolly one of the best in the industry, still.
The reloop Terminal Mix 8 is smaller, but not as small as the Denon and fits most booths easily, however it is really inexpensive.
The Numark NV is a bit smaller, however it is more plastic than the others. It is still well made and also affordable. Those are the ones that come to mind.

KeymasterHehe nice writeup. I laughed quite a few times 🙂
Just a fair warning as moderator: If you guys want to chime in on some ranting, please keep it civil and according to our guidelines.
Other than that, I actually was astonished by the amount of music knowledge by Skrillex for example. He knows his stuff, when we talked, as I was fortunate to meet him at a gig a few years back.
Terry_42
KeymasterYes indeed, however especially using control vinyl you can eyeball it pretty good after a time and you can always be a bit “arm heavy”. It will wear down the control vinyl quicker, but you are on the safer side of skipping etc. So I drive my scratch setup most of the time.
Of course if you want to play your 40 year old rare item 100 piece limited edition vinyl… you should not use DJ turntables in the first place heheTerry_42
KeymasterAwesome story buddy. Glad to hear it worked so well for you!
Terry_42
KeymasterFor come back and newbie controllers we the staff here recommend to look into the following:
Denon MC 2000
Pioneer DDJ-SB2
reloop Beatmix 2 or 4
Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 or higherThose are pretty much your solid bets.
Terry_42
KeymasterWell if you scratch a lot and I suppose in training you will, then by constant scratching at some point there will be a tiny tiny thing chiffing off the slipmat. This is the “slipmat cancer” fron this point on more and more will start to scourge off make fluffy balls under your vinyl etc. until it does not have “the slip” anymore and you want to replace it.
They are also rather cheap if you do not buy licensed Star Wars or Marvel slipmats (which nobody can see when the vinyl is on there)… so to have a pair as replacement is always good.
I have no idea why, but some people I know need 3 pairs a month and some others have them a year… prolly depends on your “pressing style”.Terry_42
KeymasterHahaha I loled watching that …
