KeymasterI agree too.
Apart from the reasons above, DJing is about music. Manual beatmatching will also teach your hearing and hearing is one of the most important skills in music business and there are many hearing classes out there.
Hearing the beat and also selecting compatible beats (and later keys) is very important and training beatmatching will enhance your hearing and you will hugely profit from it, even if you never use it live.
and if your digital gear fails and you have to use a 20 year old technics that is still there to flip a few vinyls before your system is back up….. you can.Terry_42
Keymaster- Multitasking
- Micromanaging all the things and possibly the VJ
- Marketing Skills
- Talking to Club Owners and Manager (aka Talking Skills)
- Presentation Skills
- Controlling yourself not to get totally drunk in the booth
- Regeneration Skills (Playing 4-5 nights for 3-5 hours is a drag) – I use Qui Gong and Tai Chi, but the times I did that much are over
- No retreat, no surrender – aka if you drop a bomb and wipe the dancefloor, you have to have a comeback plan

KeymasterSerato DJ Intro is much more advanced than other LE software that comes bundles with controllers. It is absolutely fine to use and learn DJing with and by no means do you need to upgrade to anything, as DJ Intro will already utilize your full controller.
So I would recommend you just stay with DJ Intro and learn all the kinks.Terry_42

To be honest…I think this is the setup that Phil (who has reveiewed all the controllers) actually uses….
There is nothing wrong with the Twitch or Itch, I totally agree Vinny. However you have to agree that the style of controller is not for everyone and from what I am reading from our friend LemonGrass he is not yet decided what he wants to get from a controller and surely you need to decide this before choosing a controller at all. He may even come to the conclusion that the Twitch is best for him, but then he will have no second thoughts.

KeymasterSo you decide you are not into scratching and hence go for the Itch Software, simply buying the twitch?
IMHO bad choice, did you think about controllerism, if you need to apply effects on jogs later, pitch bend on jogs etc. etc. etc. and even if Itch is the software for you?No you do not need an amp, you seriously need to check out Phil’s guides though.

KeymasterYou are comparing apples to oranges.
It totally depends on what you want to do.
If you want to scratch, well the touchstrip will not get you into scratch heaven, but then the jogs on an MC3000 are also not the holy grail.
The Denon is catered towards Traktor, the twitch is for Itch.
You need to decide on your software first and what you want to do as a DJ (which genre, which type of DJ, ….)
If you have not decided yet or are unable (as to lacking in experience) than try the software test versions first without a controller and try to wrap your head around the software part first.Terry_42

KeymasterI had Pioneers and Sennheiser for ages, but recently I went for Zomo Headphones and am not looking back.

KeymasterIt totally depends on what you want to do, there is no better in any sense.
Also current S2 owners will tell you to buy that and since the N4 is newer there will be less people telling you to buy the N4.
Then there are some that will argue towards totally other controllers (that cost the same).
So first make up your mind what you want to do, then what tool you want to use and the question will tend to itself, as it is not about the tool, it is about the music.Terry_42
KeymasterThanks Phil, that is good to know, a beginner buddy of mine was considering it. Looking forward to a review by you.
Anyways I hope you like the TM4, I really like the jogs and their reaction in Serato, now if Itch would work with it, that would be cool.Terry_42
KeymasterAs far as I can tell in my region the Beatmix is not yet available. (They say end of May, beginning of June)
But they are 2 very different designs. The Jockey caters more towards the Traktor crowd and apparently the Jockey 2 will possibly get dropped as it is an older model and has inferior build quality (bare with me, I only tested it 5min in the shop, but it felt “icky”).
Now the beatmix is catered more towards Virtual DJ and the beginner DJ and looks like a direct competitor to the Mixtrack pro from Numark. It also looks like it features the built quality of the Terminal Mix 4, which I just got my hands on and this is an awesome product. If the jogs and knobs on the beatmix are remotely like those on the Terminal Mix, it may be a winner unit. Also the Beatmix supposedly is compatible with Serato DJ Intro, which may really work excellent on that controller I guess.
So you should make up your mind, which Software you want and if you want to go for the older model Jockey or the new Beatmix when it is out. -
