Welcome to the forums 😉 I know the feeling, I just wanted to start DJing again for a little fun, but it took off so quickly I am rather stunned myself…

I think I might actually be in Maribor soon 😉 but I am really more booked out than I expected so I need to recheck. I send you a PM when I am driving through Slovenia next time, maybe we can have a little meet and greet 😉

    I am using a Terminal Mix 4.

Now to prevent much more, my total setup that I DJ with (not all that I have hehe):
    – MacBook Pro 15”, 4GB RAM, 500 GB HD, Core2Duo, Lion
    – Terminal Mix 4
    – VDJ Pro
    – KRK Rockit 6 as Monitors
    – Zomo HD-1200 Headphones x2
    – Shure SM58 Mikrofone
    – Crane pro stand for laptop

For production add a launchpad, oxygen keyboard, ableton, logic pro, iMac 27” 16 GB RAM, line6 sound interface, emagic firewire 8-channel input, logic control.

I would go for those MINIMUM specs:
    Hardware:
4 GB memory (you can run serato with 2 but 4 will be much more fun)
At least a Core2Duo Processor with 2.2 GHz it may run lower, but this is way more fun.
For DJing the Macbook Pro’s are a bit better in my opinion, as they are even better build quality and the aluminum casing is just taking a beating…

    OS:
I would go for at least Snow Leopard, Lion would be cool.

You cannot demo Serato (Itch) as it will only work with a certified controller. If you just start it without a controller it will start in library mode, which will only allow you to sort tracks.

I am using Virtual DJ Pro.

Yes it is and the price is a steal compared to other professional production tools.

Get at least some portable monitor speakers? I mean you just shelved out A LOT for that DDJ-T1, so at least some M-Audio AV 40s should be in your budget… and they are pretty protable (I mean it is not like the DDJ-T1 is light carrying…)

If you are on a budget, then both choices are bad. The one is a highend controller and the other want’s to be one.
Just because someone sells it cheap smells funny and if he has an honest reason it is because the S4 is not worth that money…

If you are on a really tight budget but can spend 800? That does not match.
    In all honesty:
Get a digital jockey 3 (if you want Traktor so badly) and add an F1 (which will contain the Pro license) and you are still cheaper than the above suggestions. Can do almost anything and have spare budget to buy really good headphones and decent monitors.

I am sorry then I cannot help you, as this would mean that I would have to use ableton like a “normal DJ software” and that is just something I would never do or consider doing. But from the controllers you listed if you want “standard” the Mixtrack is prolly the choice.

Hmm. If I recall correctly asio4all is an open asio driver. Now if the product you purchase does come with a windows certified asio driver by itself, why do you still need asio4all?
    Sorry, I don’t get it.

There is only one controller that has Itch for below 400 british bucks… (new) and that is the Novation Twitch.
You can map any midi controller to VDJ.

What would you need a midifighter for from the start?
I would go with the 4Trak and simply add the midifighter if you still need it later.

    4Trak and simple answer:
The S4 is a cheaply made thing and has a soundcard that does not even come close to some 200 bucks controllers out there and is 100% plastic.

The 4Trak is A TANK, build quality is out of the roof, it is intuitive, it has great jogs that are tightly matched to traktor. So if you want the best Traktor controller with the best build quality and a standard use layout the 4Trak is your buddy. No part of the S4 comes even close.
