KeymasterFor some laptops it might be a problem.
You may want to get a Numark Mixtrack (without sound card) or Mixtrack pro (with soundcard), this is prolly best to get you started. If your laptop has problems powering everything I would go for the Mixtrack Pro with the sound card.

KeymasterI seconds the M-Audio AV 40, at the price point (and prolly a hundret more) you will find nothing that can beat them at this time.

KeymasterWell I have been producing for fellow musicians mostly, but here are a few tips that I found worked well with labels (where you send your demo) and public … (I did not have a top 40 hit yet, but several went top 100… I am getting there hehe):
1. keep it simple. to many artists want to show off everything the genre has to offer in one song. don’t do it.
2. read the book: “how to write a pop song” even if pop is not your thing, this book gives a lot of insight.
3. try to make a theme for the EP and cater to that theme, labels like EPs where they can see a story behind it rather than random songs.
4. be humble
5. your music can be as good as it gets, if your downmix (how to get it on CD) does not fit radio specs it will not be played. so get to know radio specs for music (compression levels etc.) and go for the best sound quality you can get with CD specs in mind. this will show them you are professional and you will more likely make it into their “show to a producer” round.
6. be humbleTerry_42
KeymasterIndeed at the end of the day it is about personal choice and how much you want to spend for what feature(s).

you truly could not have said it any better 😉 +1000

Keymastervery cool, you must have a real passion for music and I bow down to you for investing so much (not money, but of yourself) into this adventure 🙂
but before you purchase something go like this:
– why do I need it (what do you expect to do with it)make 3 alternatives:
1. zero alternative: what if I don’t buy anything
2. minimum alternative: what is the bare minimum to achieve what I want (or is it the zero alternative?)
3. the plus alternative: what is it that best does what I want and what benefit do I expect over the other 2 alternatives? Then make a business case: How long will it probably take me to get some value return on my investment.
Draw this on some paper and then decide…. always works for me… I have a very good booking schedule and I am more than satisfied with my Terminal Mix 4, as many things from my side happen before a gig in pre-production/production and all I need for that is my PC, midi-keyboard and logic….

Keymaster2 old CDJs and a mixer that is total crap for a controller that is pretty decent…. let me think, oh wait no I do not need to think. NEVER.

KeymasterWelcome to the forums! I am looking forward to your contributions and don’t worry about language barriers. I am from Austria so English is not my native language either.
France had a pretty nice Slam scene a few years back. I saw “Grand Corpe Malade” once, sadly did not understand his slam, but his style was pretty awesome.

KeymasterWow… I have done this in Logic Pro, but this is really no easy thing to explain. You would have to know how Logic works in and out before I could attempt to explain via a forum. Maybe there is an easier way with another software, but I wanted it to be quite perfect (was for a radio station, they wanted their name in a song).

KeymasterIf they are not blown or wasted, they should be OK. Those things hold up pretty long usually and the price seems really good.
If you are really on a budget why go for the S4?July 21, 2012 at 7:12 am in reply to: akai apc40 ableton performance controller and vci 380 #1008312Terry_42
KeymasterGlad I could help. I always try to pass on something I learned from my mistakes… when I started DJing (it was still turntables) I tried too much to fast and I wasted almost a year until I met a mentor who would tell me how to slowly progress into the turntables and what to do with them….
To get good at DJing you need to have the basics down really really solid and it will improve your career immensely.Terry_42

KeymasterMay I direct your attention to this thread:

Crowd viewpoint, but you can easily see where he is standing and where is hands are… and he really has 3 nice MacBooks… although it might not be exactly the same event your foto is from, at least the pioneer is still there and he goes nowhere near the CDJ I can see to his right (far off it seems).

KeymasterYou can always try word plays and anagrams with your name first… like:
Jo Mei
Han Jordan
Mejo (I hope that is no offensive work in spanish or chinese hehe)
