KeymasterYou are low on money as it seems, so forget DVS.
2x turntables that are at least decent for turntablism will cost you 500-800 bucks EACH.
They will require monthly service and upkeep, plus needles, tonearms, slipmats and timecode vinyls (they wear out quickly). So we are talking at least an upkeep of 50-100 bucks PER MONTH.Hence I would hugely recommend on getting a controller with good jogs (like the reloop) and if you master turntablism on this controller you can go any route you like.
For example while I still have 2 turntables, I prolly use them once every 2-3 months with a few friends for some layed back session at home. I only DJ on my controller at gigs and I can do I would say 99.9% of all turntablism stuff I can pull off on the controller just as well as on the turntables. Sure you have to get used to no platters moving on their own, but that is an adjustment that takes 10min.That is my 2ct after 25+ years of DJing…

KeymasterI think your mapping should turn out fine this way. It could get a little comlpicated with the loopback and syncing with Ableton, but since trying this you are not a newbie, you should find out all the quirks as sometimes Ableton can be a bit on the picky side with configs.
I agree the reloop has extremely nice turntable like jogs, with a good profile and rollback. I did not like the SX jogs (which I guess are the same on the SX2) that mutch, they just had too much drag for me.
However I also totally love the jogs on my MCX8000 or the MC 7000. Denon just delivers a notch above reloop quality wise and I really love those controllers.
Now if you really need Midi-time-sync between Ableton and Serato, be sure to read the articles found on the Serato.com forum.
I actually do not use time-sync I just do it by ear πTerry_42
KeymasterI actually tested the Behringer UMC204HD and was pleasently surprised. From all the Behringer gear I tested this one is really useful.
Of course I cannot say how it will hold up (which is a problem in many Behringer cases), but the quality of the sound was similar to my much more epensive Focusrite. I tried it in FL Studio and Ableton and both had similar side-by-side results with the Behringer and Focusrite. While the Behringer has some nicer features even for Monitoring. All in all I was impressed with the Behringer in sound quality and also with the metal casing. The knobs and especially switches also worked nicely and do not feel as flimsy as on other Behringer gear I tried.
So if the 404HD is anything like the 204HD I had for testing, then it is the first time ever (yes indeed) that I actually would recommend Behringer gear.

KeymasterThat may be right TJSJ, but as D-Jam pointed out… just leanr the techniques and you go to any club and just play. Be it bringing your own gear or playing on their outdated crap.

KeymasterI have a few DJane friends, so I can tell you at least a little out of my perspective:
1. There are DJ females who only do it because they are attention whores. They mostly get hired only on their looks or status (Paris Hilton anyone) and do not really know about DJing. Hence a lot of male DJs or serious promoters do not take them serious and that is very hard for real female DJs to overcome, since nice tits will only get you so far…
2. The real female DJs have the same problems as most females in a male driven work environment. They have to prove even more that they can indeed keep up and deliver to the crowd and they have to overcome the prejudice that they only get hired because of looks or status (see above) and are truely into DJing as a profession and not a way to get attention. Also like most entertainment industries the promoters and producers can be VERY harsh, which is sometimes borderline for any male DJ to put up with, but I have seen some female DJs not being able to handle the verbal abuse and pressure.
Lastly I would point you towards DJ FreshFluke, she is one of the best female DJs I know and you should read her story (on her homepage).

KeymasterI agree with Todd, better go Top40 and mix in some remixes and nice lower energy phases so people can talk.

KeymasterNot possible without software, DJM hardware does not send midi sync via USB direct.

KeymasterI always do a good job! π

KeymasterHonestly I would rather go for the Denon.
While Mixar have an OK rep, the Primo is their first controller ever, so they are bound to be more troubled than others by birthing problems.
Of course this can be a non-issue, but Denon is making controllers for years and years and they have their kinks down. I mean all the minor complaints I had with my MCX8000 have been addressed really quickly with firmware updates…Terry_42
KeymasterAlso DJ agencies depending on their reputation can be a plus or a minus. You get less personal freedom (aka what gigs you take and what music you play) in most cases.
But also the ammount of money the agency charges should always be transparent for you and make sure that their contract does not bind you to them exclusively for any period of time.Terry_42
KeymasterKind answer π
Nox404 is total bogus
57sl has to be one of the best battlemixers I have ever played with. There is only few things that can touch it in the 2 channel department.
Z2: while good it is for Traktor and that is not my cup of tea. It has more funky buttons than the 57sl to control traktor, however I would not use that and still go for an addon button controller or an RHP-8000 turntable with controls.Sidenote:
If you cannot afford the 57sl and think about DVS… the costs of the mixer are your smallest problem. Costs for turntables, turntable maintenance, needles, arms, DVS vinyl and slipmats will fast surpass the costs of the mixer… DVS is expensive business.Terry_42
KeymasterI DJed a gig with an MC2000 as my MCX was lost in airport and came to the hotel a day late :O

KeymasterI would call Native Instruments support for a repair if you have still warranty. If not then still call NI support and ask where the nearest certified repair center is.
