KeymasterYes it can be done with Serato DVS, I am not sure how Traktor feels about it and what Traktor enabled soundcard your main DJ has.

KeymasterIn theory yes, in reality no I have never seen it work.
The first thing I got a glimpse off is Denon’s new tech, where you have the connector on their newest controllers connecting to their intelligent light system. Looks promising, but is not on the market yet.Terry_42
KeymasterBeen there, done that:
Volume: Make sure that people sitting in the first row can still chat without screaming. So normal loud conversation should be possible, much like a bar. Not too ambient, so you should have decent volume, but also not club level usually.
Speak to the agency doing the event. Some events they have clothing themes and some have model to model music changes. So it depends on what you do there on the way they want it handled.
Also sometimes they have like the “show bang” top model with top design that they want special entrance music for.
In these cases I sometimes went and searched deliberately for banging entrance music and went with some entrances from WWE’s music studio, as those wrestler entries are sometimes really drawing.
As for bpm do not overdo it and change it up depending on the theme. If the designs get more aggressive up the bpm, if it is casual wear go for lounge type bpm, sometimes I went with some arabic or latin for some summer designs and more asian (K-Pop) for some more exotic designs. So try to match your music to the designs and ask for a design overview so you can plan your music.Terry_42

KeymasterHonestly I only speak at weddings mostly. Else I have a short intro in a sample slot spoken by an outstanding voice actor underlayed with excellent music and F/X.

KeymasterGo ask the guys at Ministry or Pacha… they expect you to bring a controller now and CDJs are there just for backup.
So yes a laptop controller is the way to go these days. But since this topic has been beaten to death…

KeymasterAMD Mainboards have a huge problem with USB, this is why Serato and Traktor have problems with it. The integrated chipset introduces a short latency for USB devices, that usually is not a problem, but is when coupled with MIDI over USB.
Fun side note: Intel had that issue too until the core processors came along and Apple switched to Intel, some assume they got the tech from Apple to mitigate this chipset problems.
Hence nobody in the music industry uses AMD, as also several DAWs (Ableton, FL Studio,…) have problems with AMD and connected MIDI devices.Terry_42
KeymasterI totally agree with Vintage and God I love the MCX for my radio show. I did now 2 shows with it and it is awesome.
However no matter what I am using it 99% Serato, so I do not care about Rekordbox or Engine that much and most of my music is from iTunes, Beatport or Amazon (or ripped myself correctly). I even ran my mic over the MCX into the radio mixer because of the excellent talkover, which surprisingly outdid the radio mixers talkover feature.Actually the on the fly conversion of 48kHz files via the audio DAC will cause more artifacts and worse sound than pre-converting it to 44.1. I do not know that this is why Engine does not support it, or it is just an overlook, but I would always suggest to convert to the correct format for sound output (and yes the XDJ also has that issue).
As for club use is where the MCX really shines. I have the tech set it up anyways, so no trouble there, but the cool thing is that I only use the laptop for browsing (as this is way easier on the laptop screen) and use the built in screens for the rest. This way I can place the laptop on the side and face the dancefloor better. Most outstanding feature is the way the iZotope effects run on the screens and you can easily swith them out with shortcuts, apart from the other Serato goodies that are just on your fingertips with the MCX layout.
All in all I would not give up my MCX for the world.

KeymasterIndeed, while those cables look nice, I would not have gone with that.
Also while cord wrapped cables are best in HiFi, they are actually less resistant when trampled on, where a thick silicone shell is better. Yes those also will get worse over time with UV light, but then PA cables have about 2-3 years in them before they need replacing.
This is why I mostly go with Cordial cables, CAM or CPX I think with their excellent Neutrik connectors and good shielding.Terry_42
KeymasterIndeed. I am currently using a Yamaha MG 10XU and could not be happier. Excellent quality in those Yamaha mixers.

KeymasterAlso most skills from Serato flow over to Rekordbox easily, as they are very very similar apart from Flip anything is easily transferrable.

Keymasteryou are most welcome.

KeymasterThanks for the writeup, glad you like your gear 😉
Personally I am not that fond of the Pioneer OEM stuff like headphones and monitors, but everyone has other ears and thankfully we are not all the same hehe.Terry_42
