KeymasterHonestly I can do all the scratch stuff and fliptop and turntable tricks on the controller as well. Just needs some practice and costs way less than 100+ bucks a months for DVS upkeep.

KeymasterWhy the hell would you DJ at places where there only is timecode?
To setup your Laptop with a timecode audio card between the CDJs is way more hassle for any tech than setting up the controller you brought along.
I have DJed for over 20+ years now and in the last 5 years I NEVER had to DJ with timecode.Terry_42
KeymasterWelcome! Love SD, I think you will have plenty of opportunities there.

KeymasterOne good controllers (I use the MCX8000 by Denon) you can set insta start or delay and even let it run out like a vinyl.
There are very very few things I cannot do with my controller when compared to DVS, even the most demanding scratching can be done on the controller easy and sometimes more easy (transformer) as on DVS.
And for those few occasions I want DVS my controller does support DVS and I can just hook up a turntable or 2 and use them and do not have to sacrifice creativity as I still can use the sampler, Flip, Ptich”n”time etc. on my controller with the DVS of the turntables.Terry_42
KeymasterWelcome back to the fun crowd 🙂

KeymasterBeen there, done that, it sucked, moved on to controllers.

KeymasterHonestly, you have simply too much music.
That does not mean you need to get rid or delete stuff (but many of us do), however you should simply limit your DJing collection to well under 1k songs.
A DJ needs to know his collection intimately to know breakdowns of songs, key phrases, mix-in and mix-out points etc. etc. and most importantly “what song next to play”.
There simply is no way to be familiar with 6k+ songs and unless you are a wedding DJ who has to cater to whatever anyone says, you do not need to.
Quality over quantity is the key here.
I for example am now limited myself to 600 songs. Whenever I add a song to the DJ collection (which I have in iTunes) I back up one old song and delete it from iTunes.
600 songs is still well over 30 hours of music at least and those consist only of the best 600 tracks I know to date…There are good articles on this topic on our main site, just use the search “organize music”.

KeymasterI am sorry but we cannot support hacking hardware to use it in this way.
You will void your warranty and possibly violate the EULA of Native Instruments.
Hence even if we knew of a way we could not support it and tell you. I am sorry but this thread is closed.December 9, 2016 at 9:57 am in reply to: My first steps into the digital world – DJM-450 and Scratch Pro? #2479291Terry_42
KeymasterHonestly if you want a setup where your mixer and effects are as small and battle worthy as possible I would go with the AKAI AMX + AFX setup.
It is the smallest sized down battle setup there can be for DVS, of course only Serato DJ. Yes you need to buy the Serato DVS upgrade, but since the controllers are so dirt cheap it totally makes sense.
I saw a scratch world champion take on those 2 (and cannot say his name since he is sponsored by another brand) but it was mind blowing. These things may look like toys, but they are for real and sound quality is over the top.I would still strongly recommend against the 450, while Pioneer is good at advertising, they are not good at delivering that promises all the time… not unlike Mercedes (which many buy because of brand name) when every Mazda 6 will blow away any Mercedes C-Class in performance, features and reliability.

KeymasterI have played around with the NV (not the II) a bit and have to say it is pretty solid.
I think the screens are a nice gimmick, but they are not the end to using the laptop screen in my book. But I rarely stare 🙂
However it is a plastic controller, not that that is bad, just something to consider. It has upsides (weight) and downsides (takes less of a beating prolly).
It does have most functions you will ever need and the build quality is usually quite good with Numark.
So as far as mid-range Serato controllers go it is one of the top ones.Terry_42

KeymasterDoing quite a bit of DVS myself these days again I can say controller + decks is the way to go these days.
Also I feel that Traktor is going more and more towards its own controller and abandoning the DVS line quite a bit in recent updates.
Hence I would feel drawn to Serato or Rekordbox.
If you want no vendor lock in I would go with a controller that supports all major players and is quite open.So I would narrow it down to:
AKAI AFX/AMX combo if you want to go cheap and use Serato or Cross.
Pioneer DDJ-SX2, nearly same price as your DJM-450 and much much better. Supports Serato DVS and Rekordbox DJ.
Denon MCX 8000 (what I use, with 2 reloop 7000 decks) supports Serato and Cross support incoming (or you can map yourself).December 6, 2016 at 8:47 am in reply to: Best Budget Mixer with built in Sound Card For Digital Vinyl Use? #2478131Terry_42
KeymasterWow you did get some features wrong there, the 450 is bad in so many ways… check the real features.

KeymasterWireless headphones are useless for DJing.

KeymasterThe worst thing is in the cold: Condensing water inside your gear.
There are those heat thingies:

However you need them to be placed correctly so you do not get water in the end.
The cold is really not the problem, but static charges and condensing water… it also depends how the whole setup looks, how much wind there is etc. so there is no definitive answer what to do. -
