I find the most difficult part is the time I need to put into my obsession. Finding new tracks… practicing new mixes… just enjoying all my music that is the most difficult. This is time that would obviously usually be spent with my partner.

She’s understanding but isn’t so much when I’m out playing every fri and sat as sometimes she can feel a little neglected.

The trick is making sure the time you spend with her/him is good quality time so they still feel special.

It all comes down to the phrasing of a track. I will rarely cut tracks and just drop another it completely spoils the vibe even when you are playing commerical pop.

When the first beat comes in after the last break down on a record I drop the first beat on my new track. I’ve found it works out to about 1.30min mixing in/out and about 3.30mins of a track playing on its own. I say on its own but I’ll also run acapellas/samples etc.

In 2002 there was the internet and there were forums and social communities.

If playing out has taught me one thing then that is whatever can go wrong will go wrong at some point.

This is why i always carry spare cables, spare laptop (with both laptop’s keyboards mapped so i can control them) as well as a phono to minijack cable to put my phone on if need be.

A regular old boyscout i am and like they say I always like to be prepared.

SSD for me. Less can go wrong on it.

I know it’s old school but get the book “How to DJ properly” It will help a LOT!

I tend to mix using phrasing (so the buildups and breakdowns all match up) as opposed to running loops like some djs I’ve seen do as I find this quite confusing.
