ParticipantYeah, at the time I thought it must have been the amp, so I used it as an excuse to buy some new active speakers… I was actually I was a bit ‘annoyed’ when later I realised it was just the cable that had been the problem!

ParticipantI was DJ’ing at a wedding reception and the XLR cable between my mixer and amp broke (I assume short circuited) and all of a sudden I got this horrible loud static noise through one speaker. For some stupid reason I didn’t just turn it down and off, I started wiggling the cables turning the amp back up again and then ‘poof’ and that one speaker becomes virtually silent! Oh dear.
I’d damaged the main driver (would be £500 to replace on my EV ZX5 speaker), and now I’ve just got it in my house because I haven’t got round to sending off for repair. Well, actually, I did try and send it off; I emailed EV and they would let me send it to them- they told me I had to go through my local dealer.
The only thing is I bought them second hand off ebay so would feel like a bit of a pain troubling someone I don’t know about something that won’t make them any money. Must get round to it really!

ParticipantHi, I’m having exactly the same debate in my mind! I went into a shop a little while ago almost sure I was going to buy the VCI 400 but when I saw it in the flesh I was a little disappointed. it was just about a quarter too small! I know compact is a good thing, and it wasn’t really cramped or anything, but I have a vestax mixer and was expecting the filter knobs to be the same size as on my mixer- but they were smaller, and I was expecting the pads to be the same size as the ones on my novation launchpad, but again they were about 3 quarters of the size I wanted. I guess more most people that would be fine, they were easily big enough to put a finger or two on, but I wanted it just a little more spaced out. Perhaps if I actually demoed it with my laptop plugged in I might change my mind, but it made me hold and and wait anyway.
Ive got 19″ rack controller right now and I would like something that looks a bit more like a “proper” 2 decks and a mixer. DJ’ing can be a visual thing so it’s nice for people to be able to see what your doing if possible. So for me, I’m leaning towards the 4track right now, but I’m definitely not going to buy anything until I’ve put my hands on it in person.

ParticipantSounds pretty good! Nice job.

ParticipantThat’s a shame, I think it’s only available in certain countries. I’ll have to put it on soundcloud so that people can actually hear it!

ParticipantHey, thanks for your reply. Yes, that’s very sound advise- I feel that overall it does follow a particular genre- kind of bass orientated house music. I’m just not sure whether it’s got a name so that I can give the clip a better title so more people who like that kind of music might find it. Any thoughts?
Yes, it is my mix btw- I recorded it the other week at the start of a gig before people arrived. It wasn’t a planned mix, but I thought it sounded okay so that’s why I uploaded it.

ParticipantHey, thanks for the compliment! It sounded decent to my ears, but of course I’m biased! :p
Any constructive criticism is still welcome. Also, thanks for replying to the thread anyway, now that it’s got a few posts on it, I’m sure a few more people will have taken a look!

ParticipantHaha, I’m sure they’re not, it’s probably just that when you are working on something it’s easy to miss the elephant in the room because you’re focused on all the fine details. It’s only the second or third ever thing I’ve made in ableton so I’m still getting used to it… But if you do spot anything it means I can go back and make a correction!

ParticipantHey, thanks, 🙂 is there any transition in particular that sounds off? I’ve listened to it more than a few times whilst I was making it, but perhaps my ears need a bit more training!
