Participantoops… one thing I forgot about completely, the final decisions will be in the hands of the staff here at ddjtips, so while I may actively encourage discussion about the comps and design ideas.. I have no actual authority on if it will happen or not, just bare that in mind! I don’t want to accidentally get peoples hopes up for nothing… but hey, maybe it will happen, and I reckon the more of us show interest, the more interesting it will become to the brewmasters 😉

Participant@BoomDraw,
nice one bruva! I had to think bout this for a while and this is what I’ve thought this morning. the idea you have for filming the mix as its happening to prove its a legit mix, i.e. not done in a daw i.e. a studio mix. This IS a good idea, however there are many situations where this won’t suit different peoples setups and we cannot guarantee everyone has video cameras or phones that can record video. what we can guarantee tho, is that, as this is digital dj tips, and the emphasis is on midi controller decks, everyone using midi controller decks has a laptop. so we should expand this ‘film yourself’ idea to ‘film your pc desktop’ with freeware programs or things like FRAPS. This way, whether ppl use serato, traktor, VDJ, etc… they can load up the screen recording software, hit record, load up the djing software and start mixing. upload the mix and the vid, and that should be enough to prove the mix is legit. make sense?
as for the beginner/advanced-ness of the competitors, I disagree with this. lets say hypothetically when you’re a noob, like myself, and you are going head to head with experienced djs with established careers… and you rank higher then them in the comp’… that could be a massive thrill. also lets say your mix sounds pretty rubbish next to theirs (more likely) but they give you praise or useful critique, that also is a very good feeling, and very encouraging. Also the idea of saying to someone “you’ve been djing for too many years or you are too talented to enter this competition” just seems wrong. the idea is to build community.. not discriminate.
You see there won’t be any “noobs only” exceptions made in the real world when you start vying for a limited number of paid club gigs against the vast number of djs out there all competing for the same thing. sure if you won enough ‘noobs only’ competitions you might get an inflated ego and a false sense of your own awesomeness.. but would that not simply harm your career in the long run? better to be down to earth and accept exactly where your talents are compared to the community as a whole… and use that information to help fuel your drive to become better. likewise, it will give you useful information about whether realistically, you are ready to play clubs, or not.
so thats my opinion anyway, and I encourage further discussion on this competitions idea and all related ideas.. the beauty of this is, that because its a community thing, everyone has a chance to contribute to designing the whole thing, and defining all its aspects… how often does that happen in life? so to everyone.. get on board with this and lets keep talking about it.
as for prizes, I’ve got nothing to say about it, like I said, winning or not, is enough for me. I leave it to others to decide if there should be more incentive or not 🙂
Peace!

Participant@djjayq,
if you can’t find the tracks on cd/digital, people sell their personal collections of vinyl & cds via http://www.discogs.com/
i’ve never bought from there before, but its another option…
Also regarding programs that automatically update all your ID3 tags, I just did my whole collection with – MusicBrainz Picard MP3 Tagger http://musicbrainz.org/doc/MusicBrainz_Picard
with really good results. less then a 5th of the collection it couldn’t find any info for, the info it did find was correct. Now as Vintage said, I have to do it again with mixed in key for the BPM, Key & NRG info. then I’m set.
if you try picard MP3 Tagger, once you load up a folder of tunes to scan, run a “scan” first, then whatever is left unmatched run a “lookup” and it’ll find a few more. It also modifies the tags of the unmatched left overs, which I like, but it you don’t like, then just save the ones it matched, and it won’t alter the tags of the left overs… this will make more sense once you start using the program if you choose too…
Peace.

Participant@spoonclaymore..
good call, having flash backs to wisdom teeth removal when you listened to music you liked… sounds awful.
thankfully, several were a breeze to remove, and the last was surgical so they knocked me out and I don’t remember any of it 🙂
except the bleeding after… bleh.

Participant@J-Zed, you said earlier ‘shows I’m actually working on include’ did you mean as in, shows your currently watching, or shows that you had a role in creating somehow?

Participantinteresting idea! if there’s enough interest in the comps ideas/suggestions and it suits the site, could be awesome 😀
now to patiently wait for the opinions of the site staff… 🙂
in the meantime if anyone else has ideas about this too I’d love to hear them,
Peace!

ParticipantPrius.
lol, not even.
$500 nissan pulsar sedan late 80’s model. bumpers are held on with random screws i found in the shed, passenger door doesn’t open coz I stuffed up a DIY panel replacement, the boot is tied shut with a rope & the interior roof is now completely unstuck, sits on my head when I drive. Rock star sh*t.
next upgrade will be magnets to hold the roof together. 😀

Participant@Mista, Cheers bud!

Participantany feedback on the mix’d be much appreciated, I know what I think was ok or sucked about it, but keen to hear what other peoples ears heard too…

ParticipantI like the upgrade, if I’d known what I was doing, it would’ve made my life much easier, and from now on it will 🙂
Is there a FAQ thread relating to embeds & posting audio etc that I missed somewhere?
there’s buttons above my text here that I haven’t got the faintest idea how to use, ul, ol, li, code, close tags..thanks for cleaning up the thread, hope that was the right way for me to go about requesting it.. bit of a stretch of the ‘inappropriate content’ category.. but I guess less unnecessary posts is less clutter on the servers and whatnot..

Participantwell that was weird, pasted the address and got an embedded soundcloud widget instead.
