I have everything on my laptop hd, I have a copy of the laptop harddrive with os and music and programs ready to slot in, and I have my music on 2 external drives purchased 6 months apart so they don’t fail at the same time, which I have heard story’s about. I have spent countless hours searching for music and many thousands of dollars buying it, plus i ripped all my vinyl to mp3 before offloading most of it, those tunes have memories.

As for playing it I just use the internal hd

May according to the press I’ve seen, a mate of mine has the ddj-t1 I don’t like the feel of it at all, and the ergo apparently has the same components… the behringer will probably be lacking but for the price will be the best from the look of it, but I would say have a look at the new reloop 4mix controller as it has big jogs, big pitch faders and 4 channels, it’s out in May as well and it’s $599, it will kill the ergo and N4 quality wise and come with itch (with slicer) and vdj, and you could map it to traktor if you want

vdj uses grooveshark which you can get for $10 a month, and itch has white label i think it’s called, either that or find the cheesiest tracks on itunes and play them, but if it’s not stuff you enjoy playing whats the point…set up your own party with like minded people and play what you want

I hate plugging ground wires into pioneer mixers when everything is already plugged in… still do… true story :p

I forgot to mention you need to change the “default scratch latency” using

    the registry tool

for the jogs to search maybe map them as

    param_greater 0% ? goto +4 : goto -4

    if that doesn’t work use “param_greater 50% ?” instead

that means for every tick of the jog it will move 4 beats in time with the music… if that is too sensitive you can add a multiplier eg

    param_greater 0% ? param_multiply 50% & goto +4 : param_multiply 50% & goto -4

you can increase or decrease the multiplier as you please to get the correct setting

The reloop forum is terrible, I made a suggestion of a future controler with a photoshoped image and recieved a reply of “you have too much time on your hands”… what software are you using… I generally figure things out for myself, the dj2 works perfectly in vdj although I did change the jog sensitivity in the mapping to suit me, I have heard countless stories about things not working optimally in traktor… maybe that’s the problem

Alright I lied, I was only trying to apease Phil… he scares me a little with his constant pm’ing, you can’t dj on anything higher than 1ms, and even then it’s touch and go… does that sound ridiculous to you? if my controller had 50ms latency I would just use the jogs to correct the song position… try mixing on a pioneer dj 3500 turntables (my first set :() and get back to me

P.S. im drunk cause plump dj’s are playing tonight yeeeaaah!

let yourself do the wrong thing so you can learn from it, It’s not that hard to beatmatch and it cant be explained apart from saying, match the two songs together. To do that however you need to be able to listen to the two tracks in a different way & you need to have the coordination to move your hand in syncronicity with your brain, you also need the confidence in your ability to do the right thing at the right time.

There is no easy way to achieve that without putting in time learning, making mistakes and practicing until doing it becomes instinctive. Finally if you are looking at waveforms you are cheating yourself. My experience of djing is if I can see the sound it takes over my hearing, and I make jerky adjustments to the record because I’m not listening to it anymore, just matching up two waveforms on the screen. Now my computer is off to the side and I use a skin that hides the waveforms until I press a key on the keyboard to show it if I ever need it, but never do.

sorry about the shameless plug, but I did this a couple of days ago to stick on djtt in the scratching thread, guess the latency on my system….

In regards to usb turntables, they are not built for DVS but rather for recording vinyl to digital as they dont support low latency asio drivers, so can’t be used for anything else. you are better of buying a used pair of super OEM’s they are:

    • Synq XTRM1
    • Stanton T.120/T.120C
    • Reloop RP6000
    • Stanton STR8-150/ST 150
    • Akiyama Acura
    • Citronic PD45
    • Omnitronic DD5250
    • American Audio HTD4.5

you will need 2 stereo inputs on a soundcard to use turntables, something like an audio 4 or higher is ideal, if your on a budget a maya44 or torq connectiv soundcard would be fine.

they all sound completely different… although they all are generally around the 140bpm mark their structure and the sounds that make them are different.

techno – is a very rhythmical drum focused and loop based style of music, the elements of bass and melody are present but generally dont deviate from the syncopated drum rhythms.

    • for funky italian techno check out – wehbba, pedro delgardo, Boriqua Tribez, reaky, dynasty (he’s my mate so i have to plug him 🙂 )

dubstep – is half time drums which are generally very sparse, this genre started being completely minimal and bass driven so your insides would shake, since “brostep” has taken over though the mid range gets all the attention so the speakers scream in your ear, with the sub underneith in sync so you still feel the music.

    • for the sub bass style check out – breakage, burial, skream, benga, triage, kromestar
    • for brostep check out – doctor p, flux pavillian, borgore, reso, excission, skrillex

trance – is a solid 4/4 beat with a push and pull “between the kick and the bass”, but the main focus on this type of genre is the arpregiated synth riffs and lots drum rolls and white noise

    • check out – scot project, kamui, jochen miller, sander van doorn, richard durand, tiesto

I love the choons from the guys in red
