Memberit’s hard to say really, I was reading the djdecks forum and adion atomix’s new lead developer was unsure how to make vst’s work on mac, that was posted 6 months ago, so maybe he and the team have been figuring it out, but I think atomix will finally bridge the gap between pc and mac in terms of their support, but the best plugins come from the community or vst’s. sbdj now has a mac though and is bringing video plugins up to date, I assume next he will turn his focus towards audio plugins, then hopefully a combination of video and audio at the same time.

Memberyes ofcoarse you can, but you need to shift between the deck layers if you only get one unit which is rather clumsy and easy to accidently play/stop/cue/etc.. the wrong deck if your not paying enough attention. in regards to key you could easily map the other absolute knob to handle that.

Memberunfortunately because you are using a mac the equalizer I use is out of the question as you can’t use vst’s on mac, for this reason I recommend bootcamping windows or waiting till vdj8 is released as the eq will not only be fixed but adjustable to suit the way you like it to sound, at the moment it is absolutely shocking and I honestly don’t know how anyone signed off on it being acceptable and releasing the program with it… /rant
p.s. the eq is “minimal systems instruments – ultimate 3 band” It is absolutely supreme sounding.
You always have full jog resolution in vdj, but there is a small lag when scratching as atomix set their software to work on incredibly slow computers as a default. Im not sure how you do it on mac but on pc you need to locate and edit the system registry, it’s not as hard as it sounds as you just need to type “regedit” in the start menu’s search bar. that brings up the registry and you navigate to hk_current_user –> virtual dj –> then open “default scratch latency” it will be set at 2400, atomix recommend you halve it but mine is set at 860 if I remember correctly, after that scratching is tight.
The way I found out how to edit the registry manually is google, so start there.

Membertraktor if you dont want to scratch, vdj pro if you dont want to compromise… vdj will allow full use of your controller & full jog resolution with a small tweek. If you have a legit version you can download much better effects that are great in sound and functionality. Serato intro is a compromise right off the bat atleast until an itch upgrade becomes available if it ever does.

Memberone of the endless knobs is shifted to allow you to change the pitch i believe. for me it’s not a good way to control your software as you need to look at the skin to know around about where the slider position is.
It doesn’t have any audio inputs but it has 8 outputs for 4 decks of sound. so you could easily route one to plug into your mpc. I don’t use traktor so not sure how to do it, but in vdj I would say it would be best to create a booth out and route that to the mpc if you still want to use the master out.

MemberI have one that I use with vdj, it’s great quality construction but i never realy use it because of the omission of a pitch fader… the default mapping for both vdj and traktor controls the volume with the jog when its unshifted and you control the gain and eq when the led ring effects knobs are shifted. If your prepared to use sync with an external mixer its fantastic, but on it’s own you will tire of having to use shifts for everything… a better controller would perhaps be the behringer when it gets released as it has a jog, 8 endless encoders, transport, hotcue and loop buttons… unfortunately it has a short throw pitch fader though.
behringer said it would get released in may during NAMM which apparently has been pushed back, but it can’t be too far off.

Membermapping is awesome, you can make controllers do crazy things, or just change some minor things to suit you better… I prefer stupidly crazy mappings. Traktor’s good at it but VDJ Pro is better.

Memberif you can’t beatmatch you can’t do change overs… It’s also more fun to beatmatch as syncing is too boring imo

Memberfatboy slim is the worst famous dj in the history of famous dj’s… seen him 3 times each time was his worst.
now that’s said, you can change the jog behaviour easily by mapping a button with something like
wheel_mode “jog, loop_out, loop_size” +1

Memberhate to be the stinky hippy in the conversation but redundancy in any industry is ultimately bad for earth sustainability. if thing’s were made to last and not to be upgraded we wouldn’t be constantly discarding usefull resources (plastics and metals) because a predetermined weakspot has given way or somthing prettier has been released.
I’m off to have a shower to get the hippy out of me.

Memberthe closest you will find in an all in one unit is the cdmp7000 from gemini. it’s a 3 channel analog mixer, cd/usb player and a controller with soundcard… never touched one so can’t comment on the quality, and I highly doubt it is paired with serato, pioneer would never allow traktor to support it so virtual dj is probably the only software you could use.
I haven’t heard any reports of use with VDJ yet, there was an issue with pioneer cdj 850, 900 & 2000’s initially in regard to the jog position screen not using the same timing method as the software, (one was frames the other was milliseconds) it required a firmware update to fix… not sure if that could be an issue. and if the screen is anything like the scs4d it will be blank in midi mode.

Memberi’m a vdj user, personally I think the sound quality comes down to the eq curve settings… in vdj when you take out the bass you also take out all of the lower mids, giving a terrible tinny sound that is much worse than traktors… to overcome this I use a vst plugin for the eq which sounds much better than any other dj softwares internal eq and has the ability to set the cutoff frequencies for high and low, and by default the mid.
The eq problem will be fixed in VDJ8 allowing users to choose their own frequency’s on all three bands to suit their personal taste.

Memberi’m not sure pro basic does have a physical box, the full version does… also not sure why you wan’t the box, it’ll only get tossed anyway and you have to wait for delivery…
Also make sure your aware that pro basic does not and will never allow the use of external controllers, and there is no word as to whether it will get upgraded to version 8 when it drops… If you have any inclination towards controllers your better off buying a mixtrack pro and upgrading to the full pro, you will save yourself some money in the end, but you would get a discount of around $50 if upgrading to Pro full from pro basic…

Memberupgrading the software to pro is absolutley the most cost effective upgrade to your dj set up… with pro you can ditch the pathetic native effects and download new amazing quality ones… you unlock the sampler, full screen video, you can run multiple controlers or upgrade the ergo but keep the software… you also get access to skins so you can change the way you interface with the software (I’m making one at the moment that will be pretty special in terms of features)
VDJ8 is coming soon which should be a major improvement over VDJ7 which imo is better than any other if you like customization…

yep they all send midi or HID messages to software… Itch is locked… Traktor doesn’t support controllers that compete with their own unless they get paid… Virtual DJ support almost everything and has the tools to make the program anything you want… VDJ FTW!
