MemberVDJ Pro should only be around $200 as you get a discount on upgrading… Personally I think VDJ has more “potential” but traktor is better out of the box. Time will tell if VDJ8 lives up to expectations but having read the beta forums from the start of the year I am confident it will put traktor and serato to shame in terms of what it can do, the problem is that to take ideas and make them bug free realities takes time so we will have to wait and see when it’s released.
If you choose vdj just understand that you will need a little knowlege of mapping if you want to reap the full benifit vdj offers. It should be much easier to set up in version 8 however as shown in the teaser video on the blog earlier in the year.

MemberI was going to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz this thread because this argument puts me to sleep everytime, but that was a great perspective D-Jam.

MemberIn terms of sport techno because it is fun tweeking the mixer to change the focus of the mix, it lends well to having 3 decks running, and you can be fairly heavy with effects as the music is percussive so as long as you have rhythm it’s hard to make anything you do sound bad.
In terms of listening I love drum n bass, because it is a truily versatile musical genre that never gets boring as there is always something new or old to discover about it when you need a change. Drum n bass should be left alone to play (no effects) but quick mixing is always good to keep the beats rolling.

Memberthe round transport buttons on the DJ2 are terrible after a year or so, and I have never really abused them… Everything else on the DJ2 is better quality than the mixtrack accept maybe the jogs… If you can you are better off saving up a little more and getting the “terminal 2mix” as it is meant to address all the concerns in the DJ2 series.
I use VDJ Pro so can’t comment on either controllers traktor intigration but because it says “reloop” on the side and not “Native Instruments” you can always assume it wont be great with jogs…

MemberTraktor Scratch Pro wont work with any soundcard that is not “scratch certified” the RMX is not certified so you will not be able to use timecodes through it… You could use Virtual DJ Pro and that would not be a problem, to upgrade from the RMX serial it is only $150 which will also entitle you to VDJ8 when it’s released and unless Native Instruments really pull something out of the bag for version 3 or serato open up their platform VDJ8 will be better than both of them in terms of functionality.
If you are wanting to use VDJ it’s a good deal as if you try to sell the stanton gear you would get about the same money back as a RMX, and using real controls is always going to be better than touch ones imho.

Memberthe problem is that the things that are bad are horrible the main one and the most essential is the eq, but that’s not only getting fixed it’s going to be user adjustable frequency cutoffs 😀 although not all software eq’s are created equal so hopefully atomix make it really nice otherwise i’ll just keep using the vst i’m using..
I haven’t heard a whisper about mac support of vst’s so time will tell I guess, but Atomix’s history is creating a framework that’s modifiable by the community of users, but not support half of it in native mappings or default skins, and in that respect aside from vst support mac is on par with pc, It’s just that the development community mainly submits pc only plugins as that’s what they know. If a mac developer wanted to they could create anything that can be done on pc.
what were we talking about again? :p

Membervdj8 is going to own traktor and serato in functionality, I have read the beta forums from the last q & a session and a lot of thought has gone into what will make vdj8 the best software possible. I think many of the shortcomings have never been addressed previously was there wasn’t such a large market for dj software and up until recently was a very niche product made for bedrooms and mobile dj’s as there was little respect for it in clubs… and I still think Version 8 is atleast a few months away though so best to not get too excited yet.

Memberwow scratching over krafty sounding 110bpm tracks sounds dated… I have a lotta love for dj angelo and reloop he taught me to scratch on youtube and reloop was my first 2 controllers but meh, scratching doesn’t appeal to me anymore I guess..
Since this is a speculation thread I think if itch weren’t going to offer an upgrade path they will now due to a market for it, but it might just have been serato trying to cut in on the le market and providing software cheaper to manufactures than the competition, it works three ways if you think about it, serato make extra money from sales of intro to manufactures, manufactures save money on bundling software, consumers save as they aren’t paying as much due to not having to pay for full strength software…
We all know that all hardware is designed with traktor intigration in mind, and we all know Native Instruments seldom support anything that will compete with thier own hardware, considering that native have a 2 channel “S2”, 4 channel “S4”, mini controller “X1”, pad controller “F1” anyone who wants to use anything else on the market is SOL… enter VDJ Pro and serato if they make the upgrade happen.

Memberit depends on the skin you are using but in the default VDJ7 skins you just need to click the text that shows the key and it will scroll through the available text options, usually it follows
key – grey
key – white
camalot – grey
camalot – white
key – deck color

MemberIn the mapper of vdj pro it says you just press the shift button to toggle the “shift” on, then hit the cuepoint you want to delete, when your done press the shift button again to toggle “shift” off.
99% of the time the mappings are the same in LE and Pro, I don’t have a Mixtrack to confirm.

Memberchaging the pitch permanently changes the speed of the track, moving the jog only changes the speed while you are moving it.

MemberI think you should be okay unless your residency is a superclub with a bad reputation for overdoses and located across the road from the subway corporate headquaters.. 😉

Memberwhy are you even entertaining such an idea… people on the dance floor generally don’t have good taste in music that is why they pay to see someone who loves music to play it for them. imagine going into a club with your smart phone and allowing it to scan your library… I don’t know about you but my iphone isn’t full of club bangers, it’s got chilled stuff like liquid drum n bass, hiphop, deeper dubstep, and little rock, what good would it be to play a song of my iphone in a club.. I will also bet that my selection of music is better than most of the peoples there. Even if it scanned youtube views facebook likes etc.. you would get a very stale pool of music as an overwhelming amount of people like crap music that isn’t suitable for clubs, so you would end up with top 40 crap and greatest hits… And I’m not sure if you have noticed but the dj is the focal point for most of the people in clubs, they are there to start and encourage people to party and engage with them, nothing is going to match a human doing it ever! sure someone will make a lot of money globalizing a system that they can sell to pubs and bars, but it will get corrupted when a record company buys it and controls what’s played so they make more money from their artists, which means unless you have skills in software development or a buisness capable of managing such a venture with the capital to invest this is a bad thing for you.

Memberthings aren’t priced on cost they are price based on percieved value, so in the case of adding a screen it may cost $10-20 extra to manufacture but because people will want it more the price will go up regardless, but another problem is that adding extras means the company has to create operating systems so the screen works, it’s much easier to create an interface for a computer and let software company’s deal with supporting the hardware.
Although I do think as usb 3.0 gets more common and the hardware and software devs understand how to impliment it we will see a lot of midi controllers with screens displaying information from your software, it never happened with usb 2.0 because it’s not fast enough to send tight images without any lag.
