MemberKeep in mind how it will actually turn out when printed, and printing costs. Try to do a trial run when you are satisfied with a design. I agree with Phil , use one font choice. The folks will know it’s an 80’s event by the text on the flyer, no need to over do it with the pictures of Madonna etc. If you want it to stand out, keep it simple. The more simple it is the more memorable it will be (think of the logo for apple). Try to use ONE thing that will bring the 80’s to mind, if you are set on using imagery in addition to text to create and 80’s theme. Then build around that. It should all fit together as a concept. If the font is simple and clean like Helvitica, then the color scheme and overall design should follow suite. If bold, then bold over all design concept ..to keep an overall unified flow, Easy on the eyes and it makes sense to the audience. G’luck!

MemberHey Andrew,
I went through this same issue earlier this year, and have not found a solution yet. I’ve always used vinyl, but I travel for extended periods overseas these years, and was therefor searching for an alternative to my technics to use on the road. Phil, the creator of this site gave me a couple suggestions. Frankly I have not purchased the item he suggested, because my next travel date has been delayed for some months. But even still, I can not imagine anything coming close to the adjustment control that one gets on the Technics. Never have mixed on a CDJ , so I really can’t speak much on that end.. But I don’t think it’s the range of pitch adjustment that is the issue, I’ve come across a few models that go +/- 6 . Rather the issue is in the percentage of adjustment one can make , on the techs. it is .01% , where was I’ve noticed on a software I played with you could not get it tighter than 1/2% !. It was my first question when I joined this site, and actually the main reason I signed up. But not a single person had any idea what I was talking about. Welcome to the age of more DJ’s and little-zero skill 😉Sumir
MemberTwo things:
1) Know your records, or track intimately .
2) Know musical phrasing, as in 16/32 changes .Follow these two, and you’ll know exactly where the proper time is for transitions

Member*Phew* . Went and changed the site around. The tagline around my logo and the space between them has been shrunk down, nice pointer. The intro page is now my mixes, the upcoming events remains as a side bar..still on each page. I joined mix cloud and mix crate. There is a mix cloud widget right on the front page now, down below it is the mix crate icon so users can down load. Mixes and tracks from other artists have been moved to a new page “inspiration” . The font..ah the font…it’s gone from dark grey to mid grey to light grey and now to a brunt orange type color. Seems to be difficult to nail that one :-p Album art has not been added, I’ll work on that in illustrator. there ya have it..fire away..this maens you D-jam,

I’m kidding. Here’s my thoughts:
1) I think your first page should be a news kind of thing. Visitors should see events you’re going to play and new mixes you’ve posted. The bio should be another page. You want to hit people immediately with what you’re doing. Let them find out about you if they want on their own.
2) I agree that the play between the logo and the tagline is too even. In that graphic I’d reduce the size of the tagline so the logo is more prominent. I also would take out some of that space between your logo/tagline and the copy.
3) For your mixes, if you can’t host the mixes, then I’d tell you to post them both on MixCloud and MixCrate. Post the nice player with your album art showing, and then link to the MixCrate entry so someone can download it.
4) The dubtribe thing is nice, but I’d tell you then to put a blog in your site and put those there. Your music/mixes page should be 100% about you. No one else. Let dubtribe promote themeselves.
5) I’d also see if you can lighten up the text a little more so it reads more easily off that background.
Word to yo momma , I’m on it YO ..lol .

Member..more into the track now, I would easily use this in my sets, over and over. it makes the perfect track to use as a bridge between the even more real mellow/deep house I spin..into the more acid influenced records in my crates. Take she back, keep it up. I’ll get your work out to some folks , I’m sure they’d enjoy it. I didn’t get into your profile yet, but do ya spin out here in the east coast /usa?

– Logo is jumping as you switch from “Home” to any other page.
– and the whit font (“History and future , things that make me tick..soon.” and equivalent) seems to small, the white is blurring with the surrounding black. Try to use either a bold font (my recommendation), or make the black rather anthrazite or the white a light grey (contrast is too high).Just my two cents 😉
But an otherwise good work!
Thanks for the inout, The logo is actually My name+ the heart+symbol. Th e text behind it will not appear on other formats, like print. It’s a tagline like nike’s “just do it”. I see whatcha mean about the white font, I was having a bit of a struggle with choosing the appropriate color choice. Originally it was a mid-grey, but after I changed my logo color scheme , I changed the font for the page text..obviously too light. I’ll keep it to an off white, so it’s easier on the eyes. I’ll check out it looks in a bold font as well. Thanks for takin the time to write your ideas, appreciated…take care

MemberOne more for ya…dig…these are the kind of deep house grooves I spin 90% of the time, with a bit of east coast (Dubtribe are from SF). Majority of my deep house records are from west coast artists. If ya dig these samples , let me know . Would love to turn ya on to more artists/labels/sites where ya can get some for your sets 🙂
