ParticipantWelcome to the ddjt forums, Pat! We all try to learn from each other here 🙂

Participantjust my 2 cents, another option from a controllerboy standpoint 🙂
traktor
S2 mk2
Kontrol F1Gives way more control of Traktor’s “special sauce” (remix decks, and so many cool buttons). Personally I don’t use more than 2 decks, but really enjoy the controller geek stuff (think it fits better with the producer approach). And remember, as far as budget goes, Traktor and Serato software upgrades will cost 100/129 US – but Tractor Pro comes free with the S2/4.
Serato has come a great distance in a short time though, and agree with the above advice that it definitely deserves consideration.

ParticipantGreetings. Most Traktor users pair it with a Kontrol S2/4, and there’s a good reason for that. It’s notoriously difficult to get other controllers working due to Traktor’s difficult and complex midi mapping editor, and if you noticed, the map you downloaded says “basic”. Delete cue isn’t mapped, only two decks are mapped, etc. You’ll have to do a lot of reading and experimentation, and essentially roll your own. Here’s a link to NI’s Controller Manager guide:
http://www.native-instruments.com/knowledge/questions/818/How+to+use+the+Controller+Manager+in+TRAKTORfwiw – took a quick look at the 4set, not sure it has enough controls, you might need an additional small controller to map everything you want.

Wow – would have expected more from you, Chuck. This is the 21st century, and we need to move past old stereotypes regarding race, sexual orientation, religion, et al. I don’t even know what my little pony is, but just because some 19 year old guy is into a kid’s cartoon doesn’t make him any less of a human.

ParticipantAnd only $1000 each! (cough, cough)
What kind of car did you buy Chuck, Maserati? 🙂Steve (k-rex) Richman
ParticipantDistinctly underwhelmed – no touch strips, no independent mixer, no reason to upgrade.

ParticipantGreetz and welcome to th ddjt forum!
So, you’re from Cali, and you’re going back to dj, dj, dj (sorry, LL:-))Steve (k-rex) Richman
ParticipantHave you taken a look at LED strip lighting? Don’t really see where they’d fit into a dj settup, but they’re not expensive, can do effects (RGB), battery powered – pretty cool for home, backyard, etc.
Steve (k-rex) Richman
ParticipantYeah, I know Behringer is regarded as not pro quality – but was at a friend’s backyard party where 2 of these were the sound source and all agreed it worked pretty damn well. And it’s not just me – if you look at reviews on amazon, guitar center, sweetwater, etc. they’re overwhelmingly positive. But speaker choices are pretty personal – I don’t want to be known as “that a** that recommended these sh* speakers”, so if at all possible please listen first at a local music store.
And to quote my original post – I know I’m gonna take heat from the more experienced members, but that’s one of the joys of ddjt forums 🙂

ParticipantAs usual, Prof. van Eekelen is spot on 🙂 Although there is a USB port, it can only be used to record your mix to disk. It’s not a sound card, has no MIDI capabilities, and won’t be seen by DJ software as an output channel. Seems to have a good rep as a cheap (~$100), reliable mixer for cdjs, but really doesn’t have a place in digital setups.
September 9, 2013 at 5:01 am in reply to: How to really begin expanding my small DJ business? #43922Steve (k-rex) Richman
ParticipantYou’re probably not going to like my response (I didn’t when it was given to me :)), but when you’re a one person company you are not only the DJ but also the sales representative. (it’s ok to scream “ahhhh, salesweasel!” now, but then you must move on). Network, go to all the clubs and get to know managers/producers, if you’re on a large campus get to know the frat houses. And you have to be a little pushy to be effective at sales tactics – the saying goes if you don’t ask you don’t get. And here’s another DJ site that while rather tacky and cheesy, nonetheless has some solid business and marketing advice buried in all the crap (they’ve featured Phil’s posts on a couple of occasions, though, so I’ll cut them some slack :))
