ParticipantAs you mention speakers, I think the new JBL EON 600 series looks very nice and I assume sound-wise brings them closer to the JBL PRX series.

ParticipantA good entry level PA system is the LD Systems Dave G3 series – you have three options: Dave 10 (about 50o EUR), Dave 12 (700 EUR) and Dave 15 (950 EUR).
But be aware that this system has the amplifier for all speakers located in the subwoofer. So unlike other active speaker systems you cannot run the top speakers without subwoofer. The advantage is you have a nice set at a very good price.
Alternatively, you could try to get used set of popular tops like Mackie SRM 450 or JBL EON speakers and save up for adding a subwoofer later. This speakers are often sold in good condition just because people upgrade. Check out local second-hand-websites or ebay. You can expect to save 40-45% compared to buying new.

ParticipantIf you used the Behringer Nox606 mixer then the best option is indeed using a (balanced) XLR cable from the mixer to the speakers. And an (unbalanced) RCA cable from the controller to the mixer.
But be aware that if you use the Numark Mixtrack Quad controller you might not have much use for the Behringer mixer as you will only use one channel coming from the Mixtrax controller. Unless of course you have plans to connect also other devices to the mixer.

ParticipantThe Behringer B215D speakers indeed have no RCA input. But they have an unbalanced TS input which you can use. You simply need one RCA-to-TS adapter for each speaker and then use a normal RCA cable to connect the controller: http://www.amazon.co.uk/HosaTech-GPR-101-inch-Adapter-Pack/dp/B000068O3S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389360382&sr=8-1&keywords=ts+to+rca+adapter

ParticipantWhat’s your budget? And which controller will you connect to it?

ParticipantJust had a closer look at the Gemini G2V – it seems indeed a very good alternative too: it’s 50 EUR more than the DDJ-SB but you get balanced output, a booth out, an aux in, nicer tempo faders than on the DDJ-SB (they seem twice as long) and maybe most important: 8 dedicated pads instead of 4

ParticipantTerry you are completely right about the DDJ-SR being able to control 4 decks (I prefer to call this “decks” as I see channels more related to the mixer section).
Indeed my comment was more focussed on the mixer part. I personally find it questionable whether a controller with only two mixer channels is really practical for DJing with 4 decks. After all, you can only control volume and EQ for two decks at a time. Haven’t tried it myself but I guess it’ also difficult to deal with difference of mechanical position of faders and EQ vs software position when you switch mixer section. Does anyone have hands-on experience with this?

ParticipantHi, on your first question, are you sure you mean the DDJ-SX (and not the DDJ-SB) because the SX model is one of the most expensive controller on the market.

ParticipantIf you want to buy new then I would take the Pioneer DDJ-SB – it’s a great controller and it will keep longer value if you want to sell it in a year or two because it’s Pioneer and it just came out. Consider that you only get Serato Intro with it.
But it could also be interesting to buy a used Denon MC-3000 (I’m a happy owner of the MC-6000 model too and can really recommend this series). Again, you need to factor in a potential upgrade to Traktor pro (unless the owner sells it with a licence). Or you get a used Kontrol S2 MK1 which should normally come with a full Traktor Pro licence.
About Windows 8 – I think it’s only Serato DJ that is not compatible yet. But for sure just a matter of time.

ParticipantThe PRX are much higher level than the EON. I own two JBL PRX 612 and I’m very happy with them. Really well built (with painted wooden enclosure) and very powerful. Sound-wise they are very clear and pronounced in the highs, something you might like or not.
Consider also using a pair of 10 inch speakers and (maybe later) adding a 15 inch sub. You find such models in the new PRX series (710 + 715S XLF).
What I found best for deciding is to find a rental company that has the desired speakers and to rent them for a day or an event. Much nicer if you can play around yourself at your place instead of the 2 minutes test-drive in a shop which I always found sub-optimal for getting a good feeling.
Lastly, you might want to see if you can get used speakers. Often they are sold in very good condition and – unless the are less than a year old – you should always try to negotiate a price at 60% of the “new”

ParticipantKeep in mind that the Kontrol S4 is a true 4-channel controller, while the DDJ-SR is only 2-channel. This is why the DDJ-SR is also much cheaper than the S4.
If you get the Reloop, don’t forget the to include the price for Serato DJ (it is not always included).

ParticipantHow about you get a bouncer job only for either Friday or Saturday and look for DJ jobs the other day?
