ParticipantMy Stanton SCS.1 rig works great with Traktor, but it’s understandably not everyone’s cup of tea.

ParticipantPlay the music you love, mix in some of the tunes they want to hear and most of all HAVE FUN (and look like you’re having fun – many people forget this), and you’ll be just fine.

ParticipantNot overkill, because even if you decide it’s not for you, the resale value is high.

However, if they send it back saying “it worked fine for them” I’ll probably have to go with a different brand of mixer. We’ll see what happens.
It’s unlikely that Novation would send you back your deck if it’s still under warranty. If it works for them when they test it, they can just refurbish it and re-sell it.

I noticed this too at my gig on Saturday. Usually use the record out for my booth monitors. Didn’t matter too much because it was a small venue…

ParticipantI purchased the DJ2GO when it first came out and loved it. It was my first DJ controller and I think it’s a great purchase. Sure you’ll very quickly outgrow it, but personally I upgraded to about the biggest piece of kit you could get (Stanton SCS.1), so I still pull it out now and again to use in front of the TV, etc.
Even now when I gig with my “pro” gear, I still throw this in the bag as a just-in-case. It’s the perfect size to be a take-anywhere back up. Plus, add a Numark DJio and Akai LP8 and you have a very capable, yet portable setup.

Good: Inexpensive 🙂
Bad: Inexpensive 🙁Honestly, though, they’ve got pretty good thump and will do me just fine for now.

ParticipantI might be one of the few on here (along with DiBartdi) to own full versions of both and honestly, I have a hard time picking one over the other. I like the flexibility of VDJ, but Traktor is also very good. Plus it’s a lot cheaper.
I also own Algoriddim’s djay. Who wants to talk about that?

KJAGLA, hm… dude, what are you doing on vdj?
I was on that, for a couple years
then I just spent a little (very little) hard-earned cash on traktor.
big improvement.
it’s not that expensive
but traktor really is superior to vdjjust my 2
Given that VDJ Pro costs about three times as much of your “hard-earned cash” than Traktor does, I’d say I think I know what your problem with VDJ was – a hobbled cracked version from bitorrent.

And sometimes there’s a piece of kit which is full of problems – like my Stanton SCS.1 – but still brilliant.

ParticipantBeatmatching means nothing if you’re only playing rubbish music and no one is dancing. Hard to call yourself a DJ then.
If you’re dropping the right tracks at the right time, beatmatched or not, I’d say you’re doing a DJ’s job.If there’s one good thing the sync button has done it’s removed the articifial barrier that existed between the Pro DJ cult and those who aspired to become one.
Just like learning how to use a camera in manual mode doesn’t mean you’re suddenly a top-notch photographer, nor does learning to manually beatmatch make you a “real DJ”. Yes, in both cases it helps to be able to have the hands on control instead of relying on the machine to do it for you, but at the end of the day a good photograph is a good photograph and a good DJ set is a good DJ set, regardless of the technical skill it required to make it.
And for the record, yes I can beatmatch manually, but sometimes I choose to use the sync button to allow me to focus on other things.

ParticipantDoesn’t that controller ship with Deckadance? Have you tried using that software yet?
I’m surprised you’re having so much trouble with Virtual DJ. Does the software crash when you don’t have the controller connected?
