ParticipantI use the AV40s as my practice speakers and I like them a lot.
Mine give good bass, however mine are the older version with the “Bass Boost” switch on the back. Apparently they’ve removed that in the newer ones.
So, in reference to my own experience with my AV40s, they are perfect little practice speakers and, in fact, I used to use them connected to my bedroom TV for movies and TV watching and they did very well at that too.
I guess my suggestion would be to try and find ones with the “Bass Boost”.

ParticipantI don’t know where you’re shopping, but in my neck of the woods it’s $400 difference per top and the same per sub between EV ELX and the Yammys.
Add that up, and that’s $1600 bucks I’d rather have in my pocket.
Considering every other DJ in my town uses Behringer, my stuff still looks and sounds way better than the competition.
Don’t get me wrong, I do love the Yamaha brand though.

ParticipantVDJ Pro is a very worthwhile investment. It will give you the ability to do video dances down the road, plus once you’ve paid you get free updates for life.
As far as lighting goes, a couple of double derbies would probably compliment your current kit pretty nicely.

ParticipantI recommend you purchase Phil’s “Learn to DJ fast” course on the site. He explains this concept very well.

ParticipantYou could also try cutting the midtones on one of your two tracks – that’s where vocals tend to live. Or loop a small section with no vocals.

ParticipantAny thoughts on Virtual DJ’s ContentUnlimited service?
It’s only $10 a month, but it uses Grooveshark, which as I understand it, relies on its users to upload their own music which makes it not-perfectly-legal.

ParticipantI once went to a new years dance in a small town. The DJ was supposedly the “best in town”. He was playing nothing but nonstop Stars on 45 type megamixes from iTunes on his laptop. Occasionally he’d drop in an unmixed Top 40 track or country song in between (this was Western Canada). I found it laughable.
But the crowd was eating it up, so who am I to say anything?

ParticipantHow cheap?
What about the DJ2GO? It has no tone controls, but if your friend wants a really cheap entry into digital Djing, that would be it.
Plus it’s worth keeping around once you upgrade to bigger and better.

ParticipantYes, I should have said I hope no one outside of Canada knows who he is.
I’m also not a fan of our tax-funded bigot. Just found it very surprising he would listen to deadmau5.

ParticipantI’m known for dancing maniacally behind the decks. Personally, I hate seeing DJs who just stand there and act all serious like their job isn’t ridiculously fun.

ParticipantPA speakers do not really lose their value as there’s not a whole lot newer systems would offer to make the old ones obsolete.
