Participantjust ur dj gear (whatever u use – laptop, controller, cdj, turntable etc), any speakers u can find at home, ur headphones. that’s it.
DJ Spars
Participantif u r just starting out, try the ddj-sr.
it has all the bells and whistles like the sx only in a compact, usb-powered form-factor
DJ Spars
Participanttry platinum notes
better, rely on ur own ears and change the gain accordingly

Participantwhen i’m djing and i see people dancing to the tracks i’m playing, then i stick to that genre. if people are not dancing, maybe they don’t like the songs i’m playing, so i try changing the genre. but i always look at their reaction. if they get in the groove then i play that genre.
then if everyone is hyped up and i feel like i want to change the genre, i try to change it in a subtle manner, but if i see the change in genre didn’t go too well, i always revert to the genre i was playing.
this is what i do basically…… u cud always get a better advice from the better and veteren djs out here π

Participant“But in Serato it doesnβt ask me and it wont play through the laptop speakers.”
u hv to use ur ddj-sb’s soundcard.
and if u want to output thru ur computer then u shud connect a cable from ur controller output to ur laptop’s mic in
DJ Spars
Participantany headphones that can isolate u from the dance floor and can deliver decent sound will work well for djing

Participanttell us about ur budget so that we could help u better

Participantmost airlines will allow a musical instrument despite its size. i’ve seen guitarists carry their guitars as hand luggage. so i’m pretty damn sure a ddj-sb won’t be an issue.

Participantsee, there are many flight cases, controller sleeves etc for carrying ur controller. the ddj sb isn’t such a big controller so i would recommend that u get a sleeve from udg / odyssey / magma etc (there are many manufacturers) and take it as ur hand luggage. these sleeves provide basic protection and are very sturdy and not to mention cheap too. u just hv to make sure that no one puts any luggage on top of ur controller sleeve in the overhead compartments
but, if u r too overprotective of ur gear (we all tend to be) then invest some more dollars to get a flight case so that u can check it in with ur other luggage. the only downside is that they’re heavy and and so u might have to be careful of not crossing ur check-in luggage limit.
i would recommend u get a controller sleeve. it is the most portable option for entry-level controllers. if u want to store ur cables, laptop and other gear with it then go for odyssey’s redline series or udg’s flight-bags (they’ll cost about 150 us bucks). or else u could go for a simple controller sleeve that’ll store only ur controller along with a small cable or two (they’ll cost about 60-80 us dollars).
one piece of advice, never put a controller, however nicely packed, in ur check-in baggage as ur faders or knobs will likely be damaged, except if u use a flight case of course.
this comes from a fellow ddj-sb user. all the best for ur dj-ing journey π

Participantwell, if u want the cdj feel and if ur budget permits, go for the xdj 1000. but then it all depends on ur personal choice.
DJ Spars
Participantalready using those….. but i want something that i could download to my desktop

Participantlel me no pro xD
but if i had the budget, i wud opt for the reloop beatpad cuz it’s awesum
DJ Spars
Participantyes. how to digital dj fast is a prudent investment to get going in this business π

ParticipantAll CDJ’s usually have an integrated screen on them that displays basic track information such as track name, BPM and even basic waveforms and beatgrids on the higher end CDJ’s.
using that info u can see the BPM of the track and use the pitch slider to beatmatch. hope this helps π
