ParticipantI usually use my dj headphones as my regular headphones (for listening to music while travelling and stuff)
So I’m confused….. Right now it’s on-ears vs over-ears based on comfort for a spectacled guy
DJ Spars
ParticipantSo the over-ear models do get uncomfortable with glasses on?

Participantummm…. i don’t think that there is a decksaver unit for the TM8….

Participantas vintage highlighted, u need to recognize ur workflow and what u want from ur controller….. based on that u will be able to make a clear decision

Participantassuming that u will be running traktor on ur laptop, u should take a look at DJ Tech Tools’ Midi Fighter Twister : https://store.djtechtools.com/products/midi-fighter-twister
u can easily find tons of mappings that will enable u to control the fx in traktor here https://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings?search%5Bmidi_controller_id%5D=261
it seems to be a nice solution as it only occupies one usb port on ur laptop and in a small form factor.
do note this only work with traktor software so far….DJ Spars
Participantthe tm8 cannot support dvs….. and no, there is no way around this. u could upgrade to the ddj-sx2…. it retails for 999 usd and u cud get it for a bit cheaper….. it has all the bells and whistles of the tm8 along with dvs support out of the box.
if u don’t use the performance pads, or cud do away with them, then u cud go for the denon mc6000 mk2. it is a stand-alone mixer, cheaper than the tm8…. it comes with the full version serato now and u can buy the dvs expansion pack….
these are the 2 options available to u if u wanna sell ur tm8 and upgrade to a dvs setup.
just my 2 cents 😉

Participantback to the original question, u first have to decide what ur preferred software is gonna be. if u want to work with traktor, go for the kontrol s2 or the s4 (if it’s in ur budget)
or else if u wanna use serato, go for a mixtrack pro 3 which retails at the same price point as the s2 mk2. other options could be the reloop beatmix 4, epsilon quad mix, or the pioneer wego-3.

Participantbest places to buy music are Amazon, iTunes and Beatport. but, if u’r the kind of guy who’ll download a tons of music (like over 50 tunes a month), then go for a dj pool. And, stay away from spotify during gigs.
DJ Spars
ParticipantHmmm…. I’m a guy whose headphones are perennially on their head during the gig… So frankly speaking, earbuds won’t work for me.
And then it really comes down to the user experience, which is y I come to this forum….. Just bcuz laidback luke uses some headphones, I’ll not blindly buy them, right?

Participantmy advice would to look at phil’s courses to get started….. a couple of them are mostly free but the other paid courses are very cheap and u hv my word that u won’t regret the investment if u r serious about djing 😉

Participantit’s surprising bcuz the zinken received positive review on other sites…….
i currently own the HF125 by numark. they lasted a good 1.5 yrs…. (still work bit they hv now become quite flimsy after extended usage)
DJ Spars
Participanthmm….. nothing good under 100 bucks it seems :p
DJ Spars
Participantwhat about the urbanears zinken?
and if it makes any difference, it’s the beatport edition of the TMA-1s
DJ Spars
Participantu connect a mp3 device or ur mobile to the 2nd channel….. that way u got a backup ready to go in case of a laptop crash.
DJ Spars
Participantactually…. i’m more of an on-ear guy and am a stickler for the minimalistic design of the sennheiser hd 25s and wanted something along the same lines (a set of cans without chunky earcups and stuff…..)
