ParticipantTraktor is the toughest software to map…… And the problem with Serato is that you cannot mix with it without a controller. U can play only using 1 deck effectively. So serato is obviously out of question.
And between VirtualDJ and Traktor, VDJ is the easier to map

ParticipantPatrick, i was able to pull off mixes that, in my opinion were decent enuf using only my laptop. and u can always map the keyboard for ur eq controls

ParticipantIf u r a total beginner, going down the only-laptop route can be a good place to begin. Although u will need to invest in a pair of headphones and an audio interface.
if i’m correct, even phil began the same way…. after trying out the software of ur choice, u can map ur keyboard for various functions (beware of traktor tho)
u can find it interesting and challenging to DJ only using software, but once u get the hang of it, u’ll be wanting more control than ur keyboard can offer u. even i used only software first and then when i found this setup limiting, i upgraded to hardware (i bought the TM8….. it is pretty overkill for a beginner but it’s loads of fum to use it…. u could get away with a cheaper controller that is made for beginner DJ’s)btw, where do u reside in India?

Participantwhat about the udg backpack? https://www.udggear.com/by-device/reloop/terminal-mix-8/udg-urbanite-midi-controller-backpack-medium-black
it’s smaller than all other bags bcuz other bags are designed primarily for the DDJ-SX
DJ Spars
ParticipantUmm… Which bag from magma are u referring to?

ParticipantIt would be false to say that I am not expecting his expert advice 😛

Participantsadly, the degree issued by the indian institutes don’t have international recognition…. so although i get the knowledge and the exposure, the degree is limiting

ParticipantI reside in India….. Were sadly, the music industry is far from developed….
The only music here lives in the films… And it is a totally different league for a guy who loves electronic music….
Also, there are no degree courses here on music/audio….. On top of that, the demand for electronic music is very limited here. Also, club managers often opt to play off a CD or ipod in order to avoid the cost of a Dj…..
Thus, the only avenues here are to force convert to another genre and produce for a film…. Or go abroad….

Participanthmm thnx 🙂 i surely quite a few options now…..
also, are recording institutions and music production schools worth the time and money?
DJ Spars
Participantthnx 🙂
i now hv a clear choice in mind 🙂

Participantbasically what i wanna ask is, will the hd25’s be practical while listening to music on the couch?
DJ Spars
Participantbeing a software dj….. u would actually find the NV’s screens pretty limiting and u will constantly be going back to ur laptop screen for some or the the other function. on the other hand, the TM8 sports way better build quality, better jogwheels, tone control over mic etc….. so it turns out that the TM8 actually is a better bang for the buck……
i’m pretty sure terry will have stuff to add to this 😉

ParticipantHmmm… Kk thnx very much 🙂
Btw…. In ears just don’t work with me….. I hv never felt comfortable wearing them…..
I guess I’ll just go with some nice over-ear headphones…..
