MemberWe have a great scene in Burlington VT. Just wished I lived closer. They’ve got a weekly night that’s been going for two years or more now.
I don’t remember who said it, but I agree with it… Dubstep will be the new Techno. In my youth, to the uninitiated, everything that was electronic was techno. Its going to be the same now with dubstep, anything that has a ton of bass will be called dubstep, even though it could be electro-house, moombahcore, glitchhop, drumstep, dnb, whatever…
@Emma… Yea when I hear Kezwik or Fytch getting picked up by big labels (both are 16) I’m a little jealous and at the same time know that there gonna bring it hard in the years to come. Benga was doing his shit at 16 too!!!

MemberWanted to DJ for a long time. Used to work for a college radio station and would try to beatmatch house tracks with their crappy CD decks (hey they had +/- 10%… I nailed it a few times!) Never could afford the turntables nor the vinyl though to really give it a go. Started going to dubstep shows last year and said this is gonna be it, I’m doing it!! Booked a show locally and learned how to do it in the course of a month… a really intense month. Now I’m trying to establish myself and get more gigs.

MemberYea definitely limiting your selection will help… or have specific goals, a recent mix I did I went from 70bpm stuff to 110bpm and back and another was only vocal dubstep getting heavier as it went along…
For me, I want to get into the scene around here, so I *have* to be making mixes and promoting myself…

MemberNot bad dude… some good tunes in there, I love The Others and Get Ready is a massive tune! Some of the melodies were clashing in the mixes though, if you aren’t mixing in key I would keep the transitions shorter or find better spots to mix in.

MemberI transcribe my songs by ear, so I know the keys are right. The first consideration is always feel though, then key. I have my tracks notated with key signature and intensity. Sometimes I’ll have to rough through a transition out of key or find a cool trick, but its more important that the feels are moving where you want them to.

MemberHey man, if you like it I just made it downloadable…
I’m using Logic 8 plus Massive and the stock synths that come with Logic. Actually I prefer envelope filters over LFOs, but I’m new to the whole game so I’m still learning too!

MemberIf you don’t already know how to play an instrument, pick one up. I recommend drums or the piano. And ear training! As a music student who had to go through ear training and transcribing in college, its the best skill to have… now I can hear a melody or drum parts in my head and write it out within a couple minutes.

MemberYea I’d go with fan page too. I’ve actually got one that needs some updating, thanks for the reminder!
Max D. is right, I would like to know how many people sought out my fan page versus just accepting my friend request…

MemberYou have it. Its a very basic program…
Spandryl
MemberYup! Mac user here!
And @softcore, yea I meant that even if a track says its 320kbp doesn’t mean its good. You have to check each one out…
Spandryl
MemberAnything that I don’t purchase I always run through a spectral analyzer… some tracks could be re-encoded to 320kbp from 128 or 192… normal 320kbs should be cut at 20k, if its anything less then its no good…
Spek is a free and simple program to check out your tracks.
Spandryl
MemberHahaha, because I only have Ableton 7 LE so there’s a limited number of tracks you can have in session view!
