If you look closely you will notice there is some sort of “click-lock” mechanism (bottom vertical tube, a silver pin is visible). Probably this locks the stand’s position so that it doesnt fall back. Im just guessing – I dont own the stand nor have I seen it live.

DJ Hessler, post: 9395 wrote: *lol* You are in fact a funny guy:) but I will try to explain to you:
I wrote ” (another reason to keep to Mac, it just sounds better than PC in my ears it does anyway)”

What is funny is the fact that you think we should believe your ears, or indeed the notion that your ears tell you the truth. Ever heard of the placebo-effect ? Based on your ears to judge the quality of sound is like trying to guess the temperature of water by diving your hands in it (have you ever dived one hand in a cold bucket, the other in hot, and then both in the same? What do your hands tell you then?) I bet if I simply EQed a track with a +3 db boost in 18-19khz you’d tell me that now its quality is better. But is it quality or just a simple 3db 19khz boost?
Additionally please note that I never gave any characterisation to you personally (I called the statements, yes, ridicilous, but not you personally) – instead you turned this into a personal attack by calling me “funny”. Furthermore, I will clearly state that I believe you are not in position to explain to me anything music software-hardware related because simply you lack the knowledge to.You need years of studying and a bit more thinking before understanding how these things work, let alone explain to somebody else. I had convos like this when production techniques shifted from analogue to digital years before and those people have stopped the uneducated ranting, you my friend are a typical case I have met too often.

Perhaps it was guys like you that had made me think so little of Macs – thank God I have also met some very educated guys who do indeed use Macs and they gave me the proper reasoning behind the choice, or I would be inclined to think that Macs are for the computer-illiterate.
You keep mentioning that you compare your 8 PCs with your Macs. By your definition, the Mac is a pro machine but this begs the question: did you buy a PC spec’d for music stuff or did you just buy a PC off those gamers-selling PC makers? Macs are machines of a closed archietecture (more or less) meaning that each component has been tried and tested to work as intended and be compatible with the rest of the parts in the machine. Did you ever stop to think that PERHAPS your PCs do not work as expected because their parts were collected and assembled by a crappy salesman who doesnt know jack about high-performance PCs? Did you ever try a PC bought from a store specialised in assembling PCs for the musician? Grabbing a PC sold from a shop for kids who just visit facebook or play Warcraft isnt exactly a fair judgement and cannot be compared with a well spec’d, well thought out PC assembled by a guy who knows his job and more importantly, knows the targeted usage.

I am absoluteley not working for eather Mac or Denon I am just a hugh fan of both those brands and their superior products!

It’s also very funny your choice of answering only those questions that suit your close-mindedness. You accused me of not being able to read your posts, so I will repeat the question you werent able to answer to me…Are there any links where I could listen to your superior-sounding DJ sets? Perhaps there is something we could all learn from you.

I am sorry but you are one of the guys I believe harm the DJ community more than any kiddo with crappy controllers and 128kbps mp3s could ever harm. Frankly? You prove my points in this very topic in my first post. Uneducated, close-minded and a marketing-strategies victim. My condolences!

I know I said I wouldnt comment anymore…but……”Macs sound better than PCs”???????????????

This is getting ridicilous!!!!! Your statement is biased, not based on logic and defies computing logic as the world knows it. I would go far enough to say that your posting shows troll-ish behaviour.

BTW I noticed you havent provided any links to your superior Mac sounding DJ sets – all I see is links to Denon and Apple. Are you an advertiser of those companies?

I will refrain from commenting what I think of Macs. As you said, you have the right to keep your opinion, and of course I have the right to keep mine. One word of advice: writing pro on the tin, doesn’t make it so, and the price tag isnt always the proof.

Apparently my comment about “elitism” applies to more than just “analogue VS digital”. I will refrain from commenting more on this topic too.

DJ Hessler, post: 9309 wrote: Personly I think beatmatching is a skill that you shall be able to do by hand otherwise you are not a DJ in my eyes.

Here in sweden in general a lot of new so called DJs bought a cheap laptops and a cheap china made controller and plays for nothing or very little money and free beer. That keeps us “real” DJs out of jobbs as we do not work for free.
There are many that can not read the dancefloor and has absolutely no skills, they push autosync button and playes
their downloaded MP3s that sounds like crap on their downloaded copy of Traktor on their PC full of viruses that crashes at least two times per night! And then in best case the owner do not understand why people stops comming to the club.
So I do not play clubs in Guthenburg any more as the pay in general is less than it was in 1980!

Now that is the main thing that I do not like about Digital DJing.

If this is the evolution that everyone speaks so well about I rest my case!

    //DJ Hessler

You have indeed some valid points for everyone to consider. But lets take a guy with honest intentions, honestly trying to be a good DJ – no cheating, no easy workarounds. Now consider the money needed for that guy 10 – 15 years ago…He probably needed a decent mixer and two turntables and at least two records just to practise on. Make the math and figure out the cost……Now take the same guy and make the math today, needing a decent laptop, soundcard and software. See where Im going with this? With all due respect to old school DJs the truth is that this profession had become an “elitistic” one (as most of arts in the past) due to great amounts of money being required. Digital and software brought “democracy” to arts and that to my eyes is a great and welcome evolution, of course with the cost of the side-effects you mentioned.

But then again, I would prefer if you didn’t choose to generalise so much when referring to digital DJing – imagine if I had said:
“all vinyl DJs are spoilt rich kids who had a lot of money to spend on equipment and records, their rich dads had connections with clubs and thats why they became good….they had the money to….and they are snobs and musically-uneducated. Lets face it not only God is NOT a DJ, but the DJ isnt even a God and they just react to digital because they know that their fraud and fake image will be exposed”
…wouldnt that seem too biased? πŸ˜‰

In the end, the guys you mentioned screw up don’t they? If their laptop crashes twice a night, if they can’t read the audience, if they sound like crap, how do they really get YOUR job? πŸ˜‰

I have switched off scheduled hard disk defragment on my win 7 laptop. I have also disabled “automatic disable of inactive USB ports” in advanced power options. I manually defragment my OS hard disk once a month. Finally, as D-Jam said…”I try to keep bloatware and unnecessary stuff off my laptop. I make sure installed programs aren’t running processes in the system tray….” or background processes. I have disabled most of my programs’ auto updating, auto-device detecting, auto-notifications and the like.I have disabled windows sounds, screen savers and those mini desktop apps or what they are called. I have disabled UAC.

    Before the gig:
    I Switch off Wi-Fi and antivirus auto-protect.

During the gig: laptop can run 5 tracks of audio, 2 synthesizers plug ins, 1 drum synthesizer plug in, 10 – 12 effect plug ins, 3 midi controllers (BCR2000 and two Korg’s Nanos) with 10 msec latency – no hick ups whatsover.

Dont expect any of these programs to be easy at first…..

Anyways check out Cakewalk’s Sonar and Steinberg’s Cubase too. These have the form/GUI/structure of a typical DAW/Sequencer (Digital Audio Workstation) and if you learn how to work on any of them then you ‘ll have the basics to work on any of the rest of major players like Pro Tools, Samplitude and Logic. I would never recommend Live for production but thats just me! πŸ˜‰

A bit irrelivant, but also relivant (lol) for the midi and customising geeks of ya, check out Bome’s Midi translator

    http://www.bome.com/products/miditranslator

I have been using it about a year now and, if you know your way around midi messages, there is NOTHING that can’t be done with it. It’s especially useful for Ableton Live as it allows to create your own “shift” function buttons, map keyboard shortcuts to midi and much more. In fact you could create your own custom Twitch translator without too much effort. Another example usage would be to create a translator to make your “old” 2 decks controller into a “4 decks” one by using a “switch pair of decks” midi button.

I will soon write a post presenting my approach using these tools so that you guys can grab ideas out of it! πŸ˜‰

    @jezalenko
D-Jam is probably more knowledgeable in these things, but personally I’d fade-to-black the background lowest half of your card in order to make the text stand out even more (and then obviously raise the background so that the turntable is visible in the upper half). Mind you, I ‘m in the same school of thought with D-Jam here as in personally I believe business cards should look “business”, be simple, elegant and straight to the point – keep the wild colors for “flyers” πŸ˜‰

P.S. Doesn’t the same thing apply to harmonic mixing?

Yeah, and not only that! I don’t remember anyone accusing Pioneer of helping fake DJs when they released that “space-ship looking” DJM 2000 mixer with the eq-crossfading touch screen thing which practically eliminates the need for the DJ to use his ears and EQ the tracks. It was presented as a great innovation (and indeed it is) but noone said : “Hey this is fake DJing”
