MemberI explicitely noted: PERSONAL OPINION

Member– David Guetta did NOT help EDM make it into the mainstream simply because what he produces is NOT EDM, its simply pop music.
– With only a few glaring exceptions pop music is crap generic music…so Guetta’s music sounds to me like crap.
– Advertising pop music as EDM music, misguides the audience, does not help the growth of EDM, and of course does not in any way “educate” the audience
– Using these wrong definitions of his music he has gained my disgust more than any true-to-themselves pop artists could ever do. To give an example, I respect artistically (and musically to be sincere) Madonna more than I could ever give a damn about Guettasoftcore

MemberScientists agree that only a very small small percentage of people on earth is “tone-deaf”. What this means is that even if you do not have ANY musical education or classical notation knowledge, your ears (in fact, your brain) can spot two out of tune sounds. To better comprehend the above imagine that a totally “tone-deaf” person would not be able to tell a man from a woman on the phone ;).
So, my opinion, is don’t get too caught up with these “in key” programs – your ears can definitely do a good job spotting tracks that do not mix well together because of tonality (key of each track).

MemberThe posibility of transforming electronic music to something only other genres used to have: be performed.
In other words, the posibility to blend the lines between DJing and performance-live music.

Member2 seperate grids for one track in Traktor? I thought I knew most stuff about Traktor but if this is true apparently I dont. Usually what you describe means that the track you are trying to beat grid does not have a steady BPM value throughout its duration – off the top of my head I would suggest editing the track in question in another program so that it maintains a steady BPM. Better wait though for a Traktor-specialised user in case there is another solution Im not aware of.

MemberWow! Kill, kill, kill! And I mean programs and processes! MC Affee antivirous, Avira Antivirus, Windows Defender (WTH you ‘ve got three antivirus programs running), Windows Live Messenger, Cyberlink Powercinema, Google toolbar and Google desktop, “Creative” auto-detection stuff, Kodak auto-detection stuff, Epson status monitor, iTunes helper, Camera Monitor application, Manycam application, Digital Line Detection (what is this thing?), Akamai (???), Flux (???) Real Player …..
You ‘ve got way too many unwanted-unneeded (when DJing) processes running. And I can see we dont see the beginning of the list.
edit: for the third time (sorry if Im being repetitive) did you set the USB and hard disk settings as suggested above?
edit 2: the minimum is a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz, you have got a Pentium Dual – you are NOT just there as far as specs go, you are well over above.

MemberI think there was a setting somewhere in Traktor options where it particularly solved this problem…..
Ahhhh yes: Settings -> Transport -> Loops section: Sync phase when exiting loop
Tick that last one – you should be good to go!

MemberIn “Weekly Volcano” you forgot to change the “default” Article 1 title! 😉
Looks good overall – if you are not short on money, try to find a way to make those Wix ads fo away – if they require subscription fees for that, give it a thought as the website will look way more pro without them! 😉
November 10, 2011 at 6:57 am in reply to: How much time do you spend each week looking for new tracks? #1002098softcore
MemberAbout 5 – 10 hours weekly. I think 30k of music for DJing is too much and maybe the reason you are finding yourself hard to keep up with it.

MemberSome good advice over at NI……..Here is some settings off that link you definitely want to check as I have personally solved audio drop outs in friends’ laptops by those alone (especially with those USB settings I also refered to earlier):
Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options.
Then click “Change advanced power settings.” In the window that opens make sure you have the following settings:- Hard disc > Turn off hard disk after > Setting (Minutes) = Never
- Sleep > Sleep after > Setting (Minutes) = Never
- USB settings > USB selective suspend setting > Setting = Disabled
Also, I would disregard the advice to disable “Aero” as it has been discovered that in some systems it has a negative impact on performance because the graphics taxing switches from Graphics card to processor when disabling it. Another thing I always wondered is how automatic disk defragmentation is performed by windows Vista/7. In 7, it comes “on” by default, a setting I quickly changed to manual – I really dont want my OS to defragment my hard disks when it THINKS my system is idle.

MemberI dont have any experience with the S4 being used as the soundcard, but generally speaking I have helped guys cofigure their Pentium laptop for using Traktor Pro 2 without problems. It generally involves shutting down unwanted programs when DJing such as antivirus. It also helps if you shut off your Wi-Fi. The link DJ Hessler provided clearly states that you should be able to run Traktor Pro 2 on a Pentium machine, let alone a Pentium Dual. Your machine’s specs are way above the minimum.
Also, very important, make sure the USB ports are always active (control panel -> power management -> advanced options). Generally speaking, make sure performance isnt sacrficed for power saving in those settings – if not sure about a setting Google it or ask here ;).
What latency settings do you have in your ASIO panel? have you tried with higher? What sampling rate? If not 44.1 lower to this.
PS: by the way, your topic title is misleading – there is a huuuuuge difference between a 1.86 one core processor and a 1.86 dual core processor.

MemberIt is true that asking nothing for a job that someone would get paid to do, creates a lot of complaints, unhealthy antagonism, reduction of the salaries and so more. Unfortunately, due to digital-technological evolution and due to strict economic status of many societies things have changed a lot. Nowadays, I can name a LOT of professions that once were paid very good and now someone will be offering to do the same (or at least with sub-quality) for free.
Post production – music for advertising, etc etc – once you needed to hire a complete studio and a producer, now most small companies just download sample libraries and make their own jingles for free.
Think advertising itself – once on TV and very pricey now via the internet, it can become free (forum spamming anyone?)
Think car repairs – parts replacement – one you needed a technician, now you just Google your problem and a million solutions together with illustrated guides on how to replace the faulty part
Think electronics repairs – same as above
Graphics – photography – animation – logo creation….and the list goes on. DJing is not the only proffesion being affected by this phenomenon.
Surely it is unfair for the proffesional DJs to try to compete (salary wise) with a kid with pirated software who asks for nothing – but IMO its a situation that it is not going to change – just like piracy. Sitting there just complaining about the kids who steal your job reminds me of the “big 4” record companies complaining about piracy while they continued to overcharge vinyls and CDs. They deserved what they got in my humble opinion for being unable to predict situations and act accordingly (subscription-based music sales anyone?)
On the scope of these facts, both the parties need to re-consider.
On one side, the beginner who charges nothing needs to re-consider, needs to think that if he establishes himself as “the guy who asks no or little money” will never get paid. On the other side, the proffesional who overcharged based on the assumption that noone could substitute him, should reconsider the amount of money asked.Personally what I try to do is close a “win – win” deal with the promoter or bar-club Im playing – in simple words, i take into consideration how much money the place owner will make, how much money the promoter-party organiser will make and charge accordingly – as D-Jam already metnioned, if they are not going to pay me the amount I ask, then I consider doing it for less or even free only if the gig is going to promote me in any way to more audience and if its going to help my branding – bio. As people already said, knowing what the resident DJs get paid and what guest DJs get paid in your area helps your decision.
There have been nights, where the amount of money earned (by the organiser-owner) was so little that I ended up getting nothing but free drinks, declining to be paid with a ridicilously small amount (“nevermind, keep the money, it was a cool night, thanks, goodnight”.

MemberThats the downside of digital DJing. No one really can tell if you are the “hit sync, fade in-out, repeat” guy or if you are using loops, samples, hell even synths in your gig. There have been times that my buddy (also into a bit of music making so he knows stuff) says to me “Why the hell do you bother midi mapping all those FX and samlers and synths anyways? Do you think anyone notices? Look at them, throw them the latest banging hip techno track and they ll dance, thats all there is to them”. It takes a knowledgeable audience to hear the difference and its a pitty that us, the people into electronic music and DJing do not take time to educate our audience and we do not try to see the bigger picture – we still believe (or at least thats how we behave) that having an audience of “sheep” is better for us. I dont know what goes on outside of Greece, but at least here this is the main reason the original, underground, partying club scene (which wasnt too big to begin with) is slowly dying – if its not already dead. People are getting tired of being fed “sheep” music, even though they dont know it is such, because no one tought them.
